Exploring Life & Business with Maribel Romo of Salon Bloom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maribel Romo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been doing hair in the Flower Mound area since 2009. I began at an upscale male salon, The Boardroom in Highland Village. My passion for hair started there but moved on after four years. I went on to build my women clientele at Cloud 9 Salon and Spa. That’s where my passion for hair and business grew! Seeing so many women behind the chair, doing what they love while running their small businesses gave me so much inspiration.

I went on to build my clientele and moved into my own salon suite. This was a huge milestone for me. I truly became a small independent business owner. After a few years in my suite and after coming back from having my twins, I had to make a difficult decision. To stay in the hair industry or be at home with our twins. The decision was tough, but I just couldn’t say goodbye to my business and all my loyal clients. That’s when decided to open my own hair salon with the help of my Husband. Salon Bloom in Denton, TX. We opened in February, and I have seven talented stylists on my team and growing. I chose to bring my salon to my hometown of Denton, TX. My goal was to have a salon that is warm and inviting to all with a modern chic aesthetic that both stylists and clients can feel great at!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle for me was to choose to be a working wife and mom rather than a stay at home wife and mom. For me this decision was not easy. I am still learning to balance my career and home. I definitely rely on God’s strength for this!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bloom is a house for independent beauty professionals. They run their own business behind the chair and have the freedom they need for themselves or their family. I think mentally, that’s so important. My specialty is Balayage. It’s a hair painting technique and an overall look. I put myself in training, brought in hair models to practice, and made sure I became really good at it this. Balayage is my number one service requested.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Building good relationships with people. Because I wouldn’t be where I am without my clients, friends, and family.
