Today we’d like to introduce you to Lae-Triana Brown.
Hi Lae-Triana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
So fun fact, I’ve been a therapist for over 12 years now, and before I started school for massage therapy, I had never even had a massage before. I say that to say you just never know what you will gravitate towards and fall in love with until you try it. I’ve been an athlete just about all my life, so the body has always sparked my interest. After I graduated from College with my Kinesiology degree, I was at a crossroads on what I wanted to do next. I had originally considered going back to school to get my masters in physical therapy, but that changed a bit after I found out they moved the requirements from a master’s to a doctorate. (I was tired of school and the loans that came with it) lol. I talked to my mom about it a few weeks after graduation, and she was the one who actually brought massage therapy onto my radar. I thought about it for a day or so and saw that school was only 8 months to a year. At the time, I thought it would be a great backup plan and would go perfectly when I finished physical therapy school. Within a few weeks, I was registered and getting ready to start classes in September.
Going through school, my thought process completely changed. I started thinking about pursuing massage therapy long-term. I knew a good amount of the material, which was super exciting. I got to review knowledge I learned in undergrad and then started to gain a different aspect/appreciation of the body on another level. On top of that, we had a Swedish tech class the whole 8 months, so we basically got massages every day. I had no idea what I had been missing out on all these years.
After I graduated from massage school, I moved to California for about a year and that’s where I started my career as a massage therapist. I’d worked at multiple massage franchises, like Massage Envy and Hand and Stone spa. I’d also worked with trainers, college and professional athletes, and in rehab centers. But I just know God had more for me.
In 2016 I was approached with the opportunity to partner with another massage therapist and start our own business. Unfortunately, the business was short-lived, but I believe it was just the seed needed to birth Divine Healing Massage Therapy.
Divine Healing Massage Therapy was established in June 2019. And has been the best and the hardest decision I’ve made. Going into business for yourself is both freeing and scary. But I definitely wouldn’t take it back. My business has grown tons in the last 3 years. And I can’t wait to see where God takes me on this Journey. My goal is to ultimately have my own holistic spa. I want it to be a place of healing! Somewhere you can heal from the inside/out. I haven’t worked out all the details; just know it’s going to be worth the wait.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the road went and is going just as it needs to be. Of course, the struggles came and are still going to come, especially at the beginning. I believe that’s business. But instead of looking at them as struggles, I took them as lessons. One of the things I had to learn was I couldn’t do everything myself; I had to learn to ask for help and receive help. Second, I had to learn about business in general, marketing, taxes, target audience, charging my worth, business structure, website, and the list goes on. I was a great therapist, but starting a business was a whole different situation. I think that is where a lot of my obstacles came from. Learning to be patient and taking the time to gain the knowledge needed is so important. +
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Divine Healing Massage Therapy?
Divine Healing Massage Therapy is the go-to traveling massage therapy business in the DFW area. We have traveled as far north as Melissa and northwest as Denton. Besides our amazing services and skilled therapist, the number one reason we are set apart from others is that we offer not only in-home/office massages, but we travel all over. Divine Healing also offers a studio located in Arlington where you can come in and get serviced. Our services include Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point therapy, prenatal, sports, reflexology, tandem, facials, body scrubs, couples massage/couple’s retreats, corporate events, chair events, and spa parties. I am most proud of the amazing and skillful experience we bring to each and every one of our clients. We customize each service for each of our client’s needs. As the owner, I pride myself on giving 100 percent to my craft. Being gifted is one thing which I am. I believe God blessed me to be able to heal others with my hands, but I also take the time to study my craft and obtain the knowledge to help others the best way I can.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God. God has put the right people in my path and removed the wrong. He has taught me the lessons needed to be successful in a lot of areas in my business but has also let me fall, so I know how to learn and get back up. It’s okay to stop and re-structure or re-group and then keep on going. I am nowhere near where I would like to be, but I do feel like I am on the right path.
