Community Highlights: Meet Adrian Pacheco of Zen Paw Behavior Training & Dog Walking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Pacheco.

Hi Adrian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So, Danielle (another owner) and I had been working with animals for the past 12 years. She and I have been best friends since high school. She was living with me at the time and ended up getting a Pitbull/American Bulldog puppy who started showing some problematic behaviors, and we really didn’t know where to go for help. We ended up finding a great obedience trainer who was willing to help but to afford it was another thing. So, I played for half so she could get it done and, in the end, it helped some but not nearly enough. We then had an opportunity to work for and learn from a behaviorist where we learned so much about how to further Sage along and become more confident. We felt the need to share what we learned to help as many people as we can, but it’s not affordable for all. So, when we created Zen Paw, we wanted a section that was significantly less expensive, to be able to help anyone! Then we also wanted a way to help our clients stay consistent and keep working on their dogs, so we came up with our structured walks.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far it has been somewhat smooth. We had a lot of great people in our corner and already had good relations in the dog community having been in it for so long. The biggest struggles, honestly, are having so many ideas but making sure not to stretch us out too thin. Also, Texas heat is always a struggle to work in!

As you know, we’re big fans of Zen Paw Behavior Training & Dog Walking. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Zen Paw specializes in dog behavior. We take on all kinds of cases from basic puppy training to helping change the way a reactive dog feels about whatever it is that they are reacting to. We offer board & trains, in-home sessions, structured walks, virtual consultations, and soon-pack walks. We strive to help our clients have a better connection with their dogs, implementing practices using dog psychology. We show the owner how to help their dog have a better and more fulfilling lifestyle. A big part that sets us apart from others is how involved we get to be with our clients even after training if they decide to use our structured walk service. Your dog walkers are the behaviorist that helped train your dog, so the moment we get to the door, we are already observing and running their dogs through what they are expected to do. We are reinforcing impulse control, thresh holds, setting boundaries, and leash manners. It’s training with every walk, so we aren’t your average dog walkers. If something new comes up, we then work on it then and there. We made it to where most people can afford at least some help for their pups. Honestly, we are most proud of the community we have created with our clients and other colleges that we work with from time to time. What we want people to know about us is that we are affordable and understanding. We do our best to work with people so that they can get the help they need! All we want to do is help as many people and their dogs live a better and more understanding life together by creating a calm state of mind.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory was probably winning my little league baseball championship. I was a first baseman, and second-string pitcher and something happened to our starter pitcher, so I was up. My first time getting to be on the mound, and I threw three strikeouts back-to-back to end the game!
