Meet Cameron Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Bailey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my podcast, “The Millennial Sip,” in June 2020, four months after moving back to the USA. The inspiration for my podcast came from the craziness of 2020. Since there wasn’t much to do, my friends and I would talk all day – about current events, politics, pop culture, and being a millennial living during a crazy time! I just knew and felt those conversations deserved to be heard outside our friend group. I felt like we were really discussing topics that people could relate to and chime in on. From there, it was just about making this dream a reality. The introductory season was so amazing that I felt compelled to bring in a permanent co-host and a brand marketer. As of today, we are on a content hiatus. We are taking the time to revamp and rebuild for our upcoming season in Fall 2022!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My goodness! Initially, it was a struggle because I was forced to have my interviews using Zoom. To inform you, I had no experience in podcasting or producing a podcast, so that was the biggest challenge. I spent so much money on equipment like lights, sound software, and editing software. I would typically film (or record) for an hour and a half, only to turn around and spend more time editing the visual and audio components of the podcast. Due to me being a novice, this felt like a complete chore. Not only was I starring in my podcast, but I was doing all of the “behind the scenes” work too. All I knew is that I had a goal, a vision, and a story to tell – it was just about making sure it was properly executed. Since it was during the pandemic, I did have time to focus on my podcast a bit more. Post-lockdown was tricky because I had to return to work and still had to deal with life. I would say the biggest struggles were finding my footing, my voice, and the kind of content I wanted to present. It has not been the smoothest journey, but it has definitely been rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most of my career background has been in education; I taught in China for 3.5 years after graduating from college in 2016. Upon moving back home, I worked in retail sales as a supervisor before transitioning to Higher Education, advocating for low-income, first-generation students. Currently, I am working in Higher Education in Dallas. I am most proud of my versatility, and I believe that is what sets me apart! Although I appreciate being in education, there is more to me beyond a learning center or a classroom. I have lifelong goals and dreams that I am focused on achieving right now. My focus, determination, and ability to adapt are definitely what sets me apart from others. My work is important to me as it pays bills – Haha – but most important to me is creating content. That’s my passion.

What does success mean to you?
Success is when you can sit back and see the hard work you’ve put in start to pay off. Success isn’t instant gratification, success isn’t linear, success is perseverance and knowing that your goals are attainable if you stay the course – no matter the obstacle(s) that gets in your way.
