Today we’d like to introduce you to Maci Wares.
Hi Maci, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a photographer at the age of sixteen years old, what started as a passion has transformed into a large and growing business for me. I travel consistently photographing businesses, people, fashion, and branding images for entrepreneurs. I am a self-taught photographer as well as have my degrees in graphic design and marketing working as a content and design strategist to bring creative visions and brand voices to life through compelling design, video, and imagery.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a very smooth road along my freelance journey, I am originally from a small town called Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and had dreams bigger than where I was rooted. Throughout my journey, I have been at the highest highs and the lowest lows. I started with close to nothing and worked very hard with what I had on hand all while obtaining my associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and becoming a first-time mother in college, during the pandemic. I would do photoshoots for free and save up as much as I could working at a small-town coffee shop full time to pay for equipment and travel costs to travel to bigger cities city to photograph models and gain connections that have benefited me in the long run. I have flown all over the world to work with clients and expand my work as creative and connections in this industry. Challenges face me daily, but I always look back and remember where I started, working for free and hustling as hard as I could to make my dreams a reality. From sixteen to twenty-two years old, six years of determination and hard work and I am very proud of how far it has taken me, and can’t wait to continue to work hard to get closer to my new goals.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to capture fashion as well as businesses of all kinds to help with content strategy, branding, and bringing the brand voice to life through design and photography. I work with many fashion brands as well as companies of all kinds and sizes from large corporations to small business owners to help them with branding photography, design, headshots, and more! I am very proud of my work as well as being so young and how hard I work. Day and night, my priorities are with my clients and it’s because I am genuinely passionate about helping people grow! What sets me apart is my age, attention to detail in my work as well as the passion I try to convey through my imagery.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is something that does not equate to dollar signs, I feel as though success is feeling whole, happy and at peace with what you are doing. Being passionate about what you do for a living is in my opinion, a great success.
