Meet Tee Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tee Rose.

Hi Tee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been a person in love with music. I was a marching band snare drummer back in high school, and near the end of my senior year, I wanted to get into beat-making and DJing. I bought some equipment before I went to college and was making some progress. But being a starving college kid, I sold all my equipment my freshman year and figured I should focus on graduating. Never really gave up on the passion I graduated with a BA in Film Making and already had a career at one of the biggest tech companies in the world. I knew I wanted to get back into music, and I was a way better DJ than producer, so I started working at Central Arkansas Entertainment doing mostly weddings but also corporate events, proms, and birthday parties. I loved it; it feels like home every time I’m behind the board. Fast-forward to now, I moved to DFW to be closer to family and looking to expand and grow one party at a time. I would say being a DJ isn’t hard, but being one as detailed as me requires some serious work. You got to look to make a connection with your clients, crowd, and fans every time you put your fingers on the wheels. And I feel the love I have for music makes putting in the work easier.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I haven’t been smooth at all. I would say the biggest challenge has been breaking into DFW Market. There is more competition here given how big the area is. But you just have to keep putting yourself out there and be your own biggest fan.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
During the day, I’m a Business Development Manager for and IT company that focuses on Networking, but at night and on weekends, I spin music for weddings, kids, and parties. I would say being able to play different genres of music is my specialty. I believe that music should take you on a journey. From the time that I hit play, I want to be able to hit many different emotions and be able to sonically take you through a journey. Music is a connection, and as a DJ, I should be able to connect sounds with feelings.

I also do personal custom mixes in my spare time. I would say the ones I’m most proud of would my Country/Rap Mash-ups. I love meshing two different genres together.

What sets me apart from others is the attention to detail. Whenever someone hires me, I make it a point to ask questions that they might not have thought of or bring attention to something they never thought of. for instance, at a wedding reception, I always ask my wedding couples do they have a cake-cutting song. This is something that wouldn’t cross most people’s minds. But I want every moment of your special day to be as special as I can make it.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Worst thing would parking and traffic. I would say the best thing is the food. I’m really a foodie at heart, and I love the diversity.
