Rising Stars: Meet Jay Nimo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Nimo.

Hi Coach Nimo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I’m Coach Nimo at Nimo’s Training Gym LLC and Faith Over Fear Boxing. We are a family-owned and operated business right here in the heart of Grand Prairie, Texas. Nimo’s Training Gym LLC is the facility where we train and Faith Over Fear Boxing is our youth boxing team.  Faith over Fear Boxing dominated in the National Jr Olympics in July 2O22 in Wichita Kansas. Our Young Boxers represented for Dallas/Fort Worth by bring back home 5 Gold medals and two Bronze medals!!! With that, I pride myself on being so much more than a coach. I am a mentor, a motivator, an educator, Coach, and most importantly a father. I truly enjoy being someone who my members can lean on, call on, and count on. Here, we strive to create a space where anyone especially young adults can cultivate life skills such as endurance, perseverance, self-control, discipline, strength of will and mind, decision making, and determination that can and should be implemented both inside and outside the ring. We, as parents know all too well, navigating life can be challenging without the right skill sets. It is my personal mission to strengthen my fighters and members as well as ensuring their safety and success throughout a lifetime, not just through their time here at the gym. My passion is and always has been guiding young people to find and sharpen their gifts and to make them believe in themselves the way we believe in them. As a coach, I will push for elite performance across the board.

I expect members of our gym to be on time, to be ready to challenge themselves, and to be willing to sacrifice what is necessary to get what they deserve from my process. I vow to support and encourage them as they pursue the next chapter of their journeys.

We hold our team to high standards because the goals they set for themselves later in life will demand the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing has been smooth; we have dealt with multiple problems along the way. Especially when you’re giving back, doing something positive for the community, starting a business, building a name for yourself, especially during the times of the pandemic & multiple other problems as well. It doesn’t stop the calling that I have. I enjoy giving back and helping my community strive. This makes me want to do more.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I found my calling and that’s to give back to the community by starting a program to help troubled youth & giving them a better way of living & giving them something promising to look forward to & learning how to deal with life.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
It wasn’t so much luck. It was part of my journey, the highs and the lows. I trusted the process & work tremendously hard & prayed hard it was part of my destiny & things I went through since day 1 I just tapped into a gift that God had waiting on me & never gave up, sacrifices & hard prayers that got me here. Also, I have an amazing support system. My family and the families at Nimo’s Training Gym and Faith Over Boxing are solid. I don’t know what would do with without them. My Boxing family are defiantly apart of my family.
