Meet Devoreaux Walton of The Poise Pursuit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devoreaux Walton.

Devoreaux, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I fell into consulting the way many professionals do. For the last ten years, I have offered style and etiquette services to friends, family and colleagues without ever charging for my time or expertise. With a strong passion to inspire and educate others, I started a blog in Fall 2015. The rest they say, is history. I began to start consulting and earning income for my style and etiquette service offerings. In Spring 2017, I officially launched a website and created a digital presence for my consulting firm, The Poise Pursuit. I currently work with clients around the world, virtually and locally in Dallas, in person. Today my clients include working professionals, corporations, colleges and universities, and professional associations. My services have evolved and pivoted to fulfill the needs of my clients, but my mission remains the same: my team and I are dedicated to teaching the importance of impressions and help others to make every impression a positive, lasting one.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every entrepreneur faces high and low points along the way. As a consultant, I’ve many learning lessons since launching my business. As an example, I took the initiative to target recent college graduates and offer them etiquette services for career advancement and acceleration. What I did not take into account, was the fact that many recent graduates were eager to start their careers and not necessarily focused on advancement at that stage. It was a great lesson for me to refine my offerings for the other demographic of clients I serve, mid-season working professionals. Each learning lesson has been an experience I take and apply the results to my business. I don’t count these experiences as failures, because my team and I are able to learn valuable insight from what occurs.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As a child, each Christmas holiday, I went to the toy store with my parents and selected toys then took them to the hospital. I visited children in the hospital on the holidays and gave them free gifts. They never expected gifts from a stranger, and I enjoyed seeing their faces light up! It was an incredible experience to lift someone’s day, and to bring joy on Christmas. I also enjoyed the quality time with my parents as we ran the errands and visited the hospital. That, by far, was my favorite childhood memory!
