Meet Joshua Gause

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Gause.

Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
First and foremost I’d like to say thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my story. You all could have reached out to anybody and you chose me and I appreciate that. My story comes with some twists and turns. My first love in the art space was music! My dad had his own Christian music group before I was born. So I grew up in a very musical household from my father, brother, sister and I singing all day. From there, I ended up joining choir in the 7th grade. That became a huge part of my life. From competitive UIL performances in Brooks Wester Middle School and Mansfield Summit High School. To competing individually in the middle school District and All region choir to 9-10 Region and District choir in high school. While serving as the Bass Section Leader my last 2 years of high school. I made and recorded my own music with friends and later started a recording studio with partners in North Arlington. When I moved on from my recording studio I had a friend that came to visit me while I was in college at UNT. When we were brainstorming on something fun to do she suggested that we paint. At this point I hadn’t painted since I was a kid and I noticed how good it felt to paint. From that point on I would paint from time to time by myself, but nothing consistent. By the time 2020 came around I took some time to really connect with myself. I’d write in my journal, exercise, read a book and paint almost everyday. In this process I would start painting and most time not know what I’d end up painting. I just let whatever was in me at the time flow out of me onto the canvas. Those were some inspiring times, but I was still just painting for myself as some kind of therapy to relax my mind. Then one day at the beginning of 2022 I finally came up with a way I wanted to present my art! Then on January 14th 2022 after 5 years of painting as therapy for myself I decided to start sharing my art with the world! Since I’ve made that decision, it’s been an amazing journey so far. I’ve been releasing a new painting every Friday. As of lately I’ve been focusing on building out my website to sell original works, posters and canvas Prints. As well as designing my home art studio to have a dedicated space to work in. The greatest part about this journey is that the best has yet to come and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Most of the challenges I’ve had to face have really been mental. After being a recording artist who was very particular about every note and word that was said in my music. I can sometimes catch myself feeling very anxious before I start new pieces. There have been times I’ve wanted things to look exactly how they did in my head, but over time I’ve found that the best things in my art come from imperfections. I had to come to the realization that if everything were perfect, it’d be less artistic and more like a mathematical equation. From that, I learned when I feel any anxiety or fear about starting a project. I need to jump head first into it because that’s a signal from God letting me know great things will come. Particularly when I use courage to make it to the other side of fear, from taking calculated risks to make something great.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
The thing I am most proud of in this fine art painting space has been my consistency. That has been one of my core founding principles for this year. As long as I keep consistently putting out new work and proving to the marketplace, they can trust the quality of my work will always be top-tier. Then all of the blessings and opportunities will come as a byproduct of my hard work, planning, improvement, and marketing strategies!

What’s next?
Man… there are a bunch of things I look forward to doing in the future! As I previously mentioned, I’m building out my website. On that site, I will offer art lovers a chance to invest in an original piece by myself. As well as the more casual art fan a chance to purchase a canvas print or poster of my paintings. In this first year of sharing my art with the world, I’ve decided to dedicate myself to aggregating and building trust with my audience, but by next year I plan to participate in festivals as well as do my own art showcases!
