Today we’d like to introduce you to Joi Jones.
Hi Joi, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
After working in the hotel business for 15 years and spending a short time in the medical field, I became a stay-at-home mom to newborn twin girls. When I was working full-time, photography was always something I’ve had a passion for. Being able to capture special memories and moments in one’s life and to be able to look back on them was always something that made me happy. When I became a stay a home mom, I also became a content creator and brand influencer on social media and put effort into starting my business. My husband has always been my lens buddy, I call him. I would practice and practice shooting him, my mother, and oldest daughter while taking course was something I also encountered; the more I used my camera on my own, the better I became with it. After some time, I decided to turn my love for photography into a business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The majority of the time, it has been smooth. I always set realistic goals for myself, goals I know I can attain so the road can remain smooth. While challenges definitely entered the picture, especially with creating my website and of course, prioritizing time, I always had the support of my husband along the way. Additionally, there is always the doubt of not being good enough or telling myself, “Everyone is doing that” I had to get out of my own head and simply do what I loved.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a little of everything every day! I call myself the momma to it all, lol I’m a stay-at-home mom of twins and a teenager (which is one job within itself), wife, business owner, influencer, and content creator. I’m incredibly proud of the moments when I get to inspire others. If it’s helping other expecting moms with sharing my IVF journey on social media along with the best baby products or helping people with their confidence in front go the camera. I always want my clients to feel happy and overly satisfied with the delivery of their gallery after a shoot. The client’s happiness is priority for me. When you book with me, I will meet you in person or via phone for a consultation/chat about your goals for your images to be sure I have full understanding of my client’s needs. Things like lists of shoot locations and wardrobe assistance is also something I offer for all my shoots at no extra charge.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes definitely! Never give up on promoting yourself just because business may be slow. Continue to put yourself out there and pour into your growth, also understanding that things may arise and being flexible and accommodating to a client needing to reschedule or cancel is important, especially during covid.
