Exploring Life & Business with Danny Smith of Bladesmith Barber College

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Smith.

Hi Danny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had hopes of joining the military but was disqualified due to having flat feet. I enrolled in community college but realized it was not for me. I prayed and asked God to show me what direction I needed to go in, and He spoke to me and told me be a Barber and tell people about him.

I enrolled in Diamonds Barber College and finished in 2007. I worked at a few different barber shops before opening my own shop, North Texas Cutz, in February of 2011. As a shop owner, I developed a skill and a love for teaching. I enrolled in Graham’s Barber College to receive training to become a Licensed Barber Instructor in 2015. I received my instructor’s license in either 2015 or 2016.

In 2019, I opened Bladesmith Barber College. Cutting hair is truly my passion. I love mentoring and teaching skills to help others become successful in this business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Attending school for my instructor’s license was a challenge. I lived and worked an hour away from school and had to navigate the commute and work/school balance. I also tried a crowdfunding campaign in the early stages of planning the opening of Bladesmith, which was unsuccessful. Financial resources were also a challenge.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bladesmith Barber College is a school in Denton, TX where students are trained and prepared to become licensed Barbers in the state of Texas. We teach advanced Barber systems and are known for producing highly skilled graduates/barbers.

Most students who finish Barber school still need a fair amount of training. Our students leave prepared to provide a great service to their clients without needing additional training. Although we encourage continuing education on the craft of barbering, students do not graduate without the ability to properly service clients. They are also prepared to service a diverse clientele and coexist in a diverse setting.

I am proud that many of our graduates seem to find success quickly following the completion of the program.

I want readers to know that Barbering is a respectable profession capable of providing a financially stable life. It is a great skill to have and could be the perfect choice for those seeking a career change.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My instructors at Diamond’s Barber College and Graham’s Barber College played a role in preparing me for the industry. Mr. and Mrs. Frasure of Graham’s Barber College gave me the blueprint for professionalism.

I would also like to acknowledge former graduates who took the training seriously and produced what our mission hopes to achieve.

My wife, Charnei, took on the role as the Administrator. She has helped to ensure everything runs smoothly and is in order.

Of course, God receives all of the thanks and credit for giving me the desires to work in this industry and have the opportunity to impact the next generation.
