Today we’d like to introduce you to Chera Creative.
Hi Chera, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family of artists who always encouraged artistic expression, so I’ve always loved painting. I majored in graphic design at Abilene Christian University, so out of college, I took a job in the Art Director field for Mary Kay corporate while keeping painting as my side hustle. I discovered my love for mural painting after I visited Nashville, TN, saw all of their beautiful murals, and realized it was something I wanted to try. When I got back to Dallas, I messaged my friend, Connie Cheng, who was planning to open her first restaurant, Krio in Bishop Arts, and asked her if she needed a mural. Luckily, she did and trusted me enough to paint it. After that first mural, I knew I was in love and pursued every next opportunity until those opportunities were coming in too frequently to work both my full-time job and Chera Creative. My dream of doing Chera Creative full-time became a reality in March 2022, and I have hit the ground running, loving every minute.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It honestly has been a smooth and steady road. I think early on in Chera Creative, I wasn’t too focused on growing, number of likes, my reach, or anything like that; I was just creating because it made me happy, and all my friends and family were supportive. I worked on Chera Creative a little every day in the spare time I had, hoping those efforts would pay off in the future. It wasn’t until I started doing murals that I really saw growth in all aspects of Chera Creative and saw the potential of doing it full-time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist and mural artist. I specialize in floral and botanical murals featuring bright and beautiful colors. I love being a muralist for many reasons but one that I’m most proud of is the fact that I have been able to paint 3 large murals in my small hometown of Merkel, Tx. Our town is going through an amazing rejuvenation project, and being able to come back and contribute to the town I grew up in is so special. I also have my dad and granddad (who are artists) assist me on those murals, with the rest of the family in lawn chairs cheering us on. It’s just so good for the soul, and that’s what makes me love what I do even more.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best support I (or any artist) can receive is engagement with their work on social media and word of mouth. For an artist, it’s so vulnerable to put your art and yourself out there to the world, so having strong supportive people show up in the comments means the world. Shoutout to all the friends and family who support my work already; it means so much to me.
I am always open to different ways of collaborating and working with businesses. I’d love to eventually see Chera flowers on everything everywhere (a casual vision) and love the idea of merging multiple brands’ expertise and creating exciting products and experiences.
