Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Schleif.
Jana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After discovering a love for design in college but being at a college that didn’t offer an interior design degree, I received my degree in marketing but could never let go of design! After a decade-plus of my own home being my design outlet, I then moved on to friends’ homes. Referrals began to happen, then new construction homes….and JSI was born. We have grown into a small firm offering full design services. We can start the process as early as working with homeowners and architects to draw the homeowner’s dream home to placing the last pillow and having your home move-in ready. We also do renovations and full furnishings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With my degree being in marketing there has been a lot of late nights and self-teaching! Interior Design is much more than selecting all the pretty things. Dimensions, reading construction drawings, construction knowledge, producing CADs, etc. All the long days and late nights have been worth it. Then you throw Covid in the mix and that brought in challenges for the industry as a whole. Thankfully I get to do what I truly love, and it makes all the bumps in the road worth it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We begin all potential client relationships by filling out a google form that tells us more about the projects and the homeowner’s needs. Once determined the project is a good fit for all, we do a little Q&A to better get to know our clients. A concept design meeting allows us to present images to our clients and really hone in on their likes and dislikes. It is just as important for us to know what they hate as it is to know what they love! After that meeting, our team hits the ground running making all design selections. Paint, tile, grout, trim details, exterior materials, counters, cabinets, electrical fixtures, furniture, fabrics…we handle it all and then have a full design presentation meeting. This gives clients the opportunity to see their home as a whole and really visualize the end product. They see how one room flows to the next. Once we have approval, we begin all the spreadsheets, CADs, and renderings to hand over to the builder, contractor, and/or furnishing supplier. We meet onsite throughout construction to confirm materials and details are put in place. The best is reveal day when the homeowners get to see the space they have been dreaming of!
What does success mean to you?
Happy Clients! Repeat clients and referrals! One of the most important things to our firm is that our client’s home is unique and a reflection of them and their family!
