Meet Kevin Gilbert of Gilbert Productionz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Gilbert.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a thing for pictures whether it was in front of the camera or behind it. But it wasn’t until about 5 years ago after a constant thought and not knowing how to start, I asked a friend that was in the industry for advice on getting a camera and getting a start, but I still didn’t make any moves, just got the advice and slept on it. Pandemic hit, I left a company that i had been with for 12 years and was starting a fresh new career but kept thinking more and more about a camera and becoming a photographer. So I reached out to a few other friends in the industry,  talked to family members for and finally bought my camera in August 2021. Things have been bumpy but great since I bought it. To date, I owe my sincerest gratitude to my people Fred, Justin, Travis, Ricky, Dre, Tavon, Pooh, Reggie, and D Jones to name a few. These individuals have either pushed me to start or have been there whenever I needed them with questions or needing help, or getting jobs to do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not all smooth, but it has definitely been worth every second. I have not always had an entrepreneur goal, so starting anything on your own is not easy. It’s a lot of ins and outs to being a photographer that I didn’t really realize lol. But I have leaned on friends and YouTube university to learn what I have so far. But to name a few things lighting, is it too much, too little, utilizing flash in the right setting, exposure, knowing when it’s best to use an off-camera flash or not. And editing is not as easy as I thought it would be for sure lol. I have met great people during this journey and I have am forever grateful for what they have done for me. I would say one of the biggest challenges that I’ve had to face is so far is knowing my worth and making sure I’m not undercutting myself or getting taken advantage of.

We’ve been impressed with Gilbert Productionz, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer that strives to capture the precious moments and create everlasting memories for all whether it’s a birthday shoot, a special event, or sporting event. I am in the business to help bring your thoughts and visions to reality. I do not want to become one dimensional, or only focus on one or two types of shoots or events, so I have become a student of the game and learning all the different aspects. Be on the lookout because soon I will be adding videography into what I offer as well.

What does success mean to you?
Success could mean a lot, and has a different meaning depending on who you ask. Growing up what i thought success was, was being a millionaire or living this lavish lifestyle. But the older i have gotten i have realized, i don’t have to be a millionaire or live lavishly, I’m a pretty simple guy. So for me, success is doing something that makes you happy and something that you enjoy. What that would look like for me is my family and I living how we want to live, on our terms, full of love.
