Life & Work with Sofiat Adegbindin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofiat Adegbindin.

Hi Sofiat, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started getting into makeup when I was in middle school. I went from doing just my eyebrows and black eyeliner to experimenting with colors in eyeshadow palettes. I loved playing with my face and creating all kinds of looks over the years. When I went to college a lot of my friends told me I should start doing makeup professionally. I hesitated at first, but with a lot of support and encouragement, I started doing people’s makeup! It took about 3 years and people that believe in my craft to get to where I am today. 2021 was a special blessing for me because I was able to do makeup on my first bride and bridal party. After that, I have been booked and busy! I love makeup, and I love doing makeup, whether it is on myself or on a client.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first began doing makeup, I was horrible at it. It is true when they say that you can do your own makeup well on yourself but then do a horrible job on other people. Looking back at all the faces I have done in the beginning of my journey, I am so glad that I have improved my skills and gotten much better at doing other people’s faces. Another obstacle I had was not having a professional makeup kit. Up until 2020, I had all of my makeup in different shoe boxes. When I finally bought my first makeup kit, I was so excited! It carried everything I needed and had extra storage space!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently work in a hospital in the Research department while pursuing my Master’s degree. I love my job and my work environment, and on the weekends, I am either doing homework or makeup! I am most known for my bubbly and energetic personality! You can say I always pass the vibe check. I love being around people who love me for me because it brings out my most true and genuine self.

I am most proud of how much I have grown as a person, as an artist, and as a professional in the work field. Every time life tries to knock me down, I take things with a grain of salt and continue to work on becoming a better person every day. With faith, prayer, and hard work, I achieve everything I put my mind to.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future include finishing school, getting a better job, getting married, and expanding my makeup business. In the next 5 to 10 years, I plan on opening my own studio!
