Conversations with Tiffany Vargas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Vargas.

Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Modeling and competing in pageants have always been a passion of mine. I’m doing something outside of what my family believes and trying something new. Growing up my self-esteem was very low, and my family didn’t believe I could be a model or beauty queen. I saw a quote on my way back from lunch in 8th-grade year that said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. This was the moment I knew I had to at least try. I had done one pageant before entering the Miss America’s United States NC State Preliminary, Miss NC USA 2019, where I got to watch the beautiful Miss Cheslie Kryst crowned. It was my first pageant, but Tava and Connie, my directors, saw something my in me that I didn’t see for myself then. They helped me learn to love who I am and be unapologetically me. After my year as Miss NC, I moved to Texas and began representing the title in Houston because I want to reach other young girls that felt like I did and bring them into the lifelong sisterhood and love they deserve. Through my years with AUS, I have been able to spread amity and kindness while bringing to light the importance of self-love and awareness about Global Homelessness and Home Displacement.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road. A lot of preparation, time, and effort goes into not only prepping for the pageant but what you plan to do after you win. My biggest struggle I have faced was when I was organizing a Sleepout. I had to find a venue, enlist entertainment, find sponsors for the raffle, amongst other things. I sent dozens of emails, listened to samples of music submitted to me, followed up with everyone participating… but it was all worth it when it was over. Parents came up to me to tell me how they and their kids will never forget what it’s like to sleep outside in solidarity with the homeless, to live like they have to year after year, for just one night. The struggle is always worth it; push through till the end.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work at Steak 48 of Houston. I am a Barista and To-go girl. When I am Barista, I specialize in making coffee, hot teas and restocking the barista station throughout the night. As To-Go, I specialize in taking orders over the phone and order tablet to send to the kitchen. I packaged and deliver them curbside. I am most proud of working for a company that strives for perfection in every aspect. I am known by guest and staff a like for my unique personality, energetic attitude, and dad jokes. If I’m not smiling or telling jokes, everyone notices.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is reaching a goal or accomplishing something I’ve set out to achieve. I want to provide a source of motivation for people to change their lives and values. If I can do it, we can do it.
