Meet Barbara Hidalgo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Hidalgo.

Hi Barbara, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Barbara Hidalgo; I was born in Maracay City, Aragua state. Since I was 7 years old, I started my musical studies, at the same time I was studying regularly like any child! I grew up in a peculiar family motivated by excellence, good habits, and the desire to move forward; since I remember my life, I was always surrounded by Lots of music, art, and dreams.

From a very young age, I began my musical studies in ”el sistema” where our main source of inspiration, the master José Antonio Abreu, encouraged us until the last day of his life to play, sing and fight! Without a doubt, my life from those beginnings until now will always be marked by that phrase.

I had the opportunity to start in the violin, an instrument that is undoubtedly very competitive but beautiful definitely, I had the opportunity to work and play with many international masters such as Gustavo Dudamel, Cristian Vazquez, Pacho Flores, Pablo Castellanos, Eduardo Salazar, David Ascanio, among others.

After living all these experiences, I decided to study a career that would allow me to merge the world of music with science, for which I chose psychology,

When I graduated as a psychologist, I began to work in the special education program within the Venezuelan orchestra system, some time later, I was presented with the opportunity to audition for the Aragua Symphony Orchestra, where I managed to be selected as an official member.

Sometime later, as a result of many problems that had been developing in the country that began to affect my daily life to the point of feeling afraid just to go out into the streets because of all the political issues that surround the situation in Venezuela, where the hospital crisis, food is very scarce and that without naming the delinquency.

The United States represented a gateway to all these experiences for me. I started again. It has not been easy. Let’s say that I reinvented myself and managed to enter other areas for my development.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a road full of many ups and downs, many tests along the way, but without a doubt, there were times when I did not see the way out; however, faith was the key to not giving up and continuing to fight to achieve my dreams.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have trained as a musician since I was 7 years old, and I have a degree in psychology; currently, after the pandemic, I have reinvented myself. I share my life through my social networks, sharing my trips and my day! I keep fighting for my dreams and projects to join the Miami orchestra.

I am proud of the tests and obstacles that I have overcome on my way. I define myself as a hard-working person in a constant search for opportunities and a dreamer; my personality and all the previous aspects that characterize me make me different from others! I never forget where I come from and always with my feet on the ground.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me in this life is my family; they are the engine that drives me to continue fighting in a different country and continue facing every circumstance that life puts in my way.

My dad is the most hard-working and noble person there can be, my mom is the bravest and most disciplined person, and my brother is the most creative and authentic. Together they are the strength I need to never give up.
