Meet Averie Simone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Averie Simone.

Hi Averie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I honestly don’t know how I started creating content or ‘influencing,’ as people like to call it. I just shared what I liked, and people gravitated towards it. I’ve always been fashionable and loved to talk about new trends and fire pieces I would find in my random window shopping. That, in addition to me being cheap (really broke) that made me want to starting DIYing services I would pay people for, sharing my experiences, and people asked me how I did it. Somewhere along the lines, people started encouraging me to do YouTube because of my personality and my expertise, and I finally said why not, and here I am!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Whewwww! My favorite scripture paraphrased is the perfect answer to this question. ‘For the race isn’t given to the swift, nor the battle to the strong but to the one who endures.’ Ecclesiastes 9:11 Nothing worth having comes easy, or everybody would have it. My biggest struggle is my inner thoughts, as, like many people, my biggest critic is myself. Imposter syndrome, paired with a mild bit of comparison, has held me back but won’t keep me there for long. Once I realized why I felt that way, I checked myself and got back on the ball. I tell myself every day won’t be a good day, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it be the worst day. Giving myself grace in my valleys makes the mountaintops feel that much better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
It’s hard to say you specialize in one thing when you’re good at a lot of thing, lol. I like to think of myself as a multiple-disciplinary creative. I’m a fashion enthusiast, hairstylist, creative director, marketing maven, interior designer, nail artist, musician, and so much more. If I HAD to pick what I’d ‘specialize’ in since I’m the most proud of them, it’d be fashion, creative directing, and marketing/content creation. What sets me apart is my approach on creating. I don’t believe in limiting myself just because somebody told me I should. Being knowledgeable of lots of things helps me be more well-rounded in all things, and that’s my superpower.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the industries I’m in will continue grow in the direction it’s going now: accessibility. Before fashion, content creation and marketing always seemed like only a few elite people were able to be a part of, but now things have opened up to where everybody can have a piece of the pie, and there’s less gatekeeping. I’m a strong advocate for sharing knowledge to help the people behind me have an easier time coming up, and it’s important we continue to adopt that mindset as a people.
