Conversations with Tamia Forrest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamia Forrest.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Tamia Forrest also known as “The Skin Magician”. I’m a Mississippi native with a passion for uplifting others and making them feel good about themselves mentally, physically, and emotionally.

After receiving my Master’s Degree in Social Work and working in mental healthcare, I decided I wanted to take a break from the hospitals and help others on a more intricate and personable level.

With a background of health and wellness, fitness, and mental health, I was motivated to merge my skillset/gift and use it in a more nontraditional way. After becoming certified in Body Sculpting and Lash Extensions and building a rapport with my clients, I found that each session was immensely therapeutic for not only my clients but me as well. Soon after, I gained an interest in the Esthetics Field. After researching and communing with God, I was led to apply to Esthetician School.

My objective is to provide each client with a magical and individually tailored EXPERIENCE: a getaway, a break from reality giving immediate satisfaction while also holistically helping to become the best version of themselves.

Although I’m still new to Texas, I’m excited to grow and help my clients reach their goals on all levels! I hope you guys are ready for the commitment and the mesmerizing results!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Before answering this question, initially, my answer was no, but after dissecting what is being asked, I’ve come to the realization that the road most definitely wasn’t smooth. Some of my struggles were fear and self-doubt, relationship issues, and financial concerns. I battled with assurance of this being something I really wanted to do, mistakes, and incompetence. Being that I lack experience and so many other people in the industry, I often wondered about what I could bring that was different. I was concerned about how I was going to pay for school as well as an uncertainty of how supportive my partner was willing to be through this journey by making the necessary sacrifices. I was nervous about the skin in general. Estheticians are educated on the science and art of skin and are able to recall products, ingredients, and what each ingredient promotes.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician I specialize in corrective skin care for acne, discoloration, sensitive and aging skin, using medical-grade products, and I am most known for Brazilian Waxing and my Oxgenating Facials. Oxygenating Facials are my favorite because it improves blood circulation to the face, which can help skin look bright and plump. It kills bacteria in the skin, calming acne. I perform treatments such as microdermabrasions, dermaplane, chemical peels, body peels, waxing, and sugaring. I offer services to all ethnic groups. I educate my clients about the products and aftercare. I listen to their skin concerns and come up with a custom treatment plan. I teach them how to be patient with their skin and the process. I make sure the clients are comfortable. My clients are my prime concern.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5-10 years, I’ll be continuing to prosper as an entrepreneur, advancing from where I am. I will be starting a mobile business and Med Spa facility. I will be able to offer services on the go. I plan on continuing with my annual Self Care Workshops, targeting men and women ministries. Being that Dallas is a multicultural area, I want to target different cultures as well. Being that cosmetic surgeries are currently trending. My Medical Spa will offer services for weight loss, skin tightening, laser services, and post-operative care.
