Conversations with Aimee Moraitis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Moraitis.

Aimee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career got started in the Oaklawn area of Dallas. It was (and still is) a high-volume tattoo shop. It was a great place to start because it did prep me on how to deal with a variety of clientele. Eventually, I started looking for a studio that would provide me with more opportunities on the jewelry and tattooing front. Dark Age Tattoo Studio has played a major role in supporting my love for high-end jewelry and art. I currently pierce and tattoo there.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Believe it or not it’s pretty difficult finding a tattoo shop that cares about the jewelry that goes into people’s bodies. There’s a reason there are only four APP studios in the DFW area at the moment. I do feel like more studios are starting to see the benefit in providing safe body jewelry but it’s definitely a slow transition that the industry is making. Studios like Dark Age are hard to come by since a majority don’t focus on client experience first.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Tattooing and piercing. I’m most proud of the jewelry curation I was able to set at the studio. Being able to manage my tattoo career and jewelry curation at the studio has really been an experience. But I wouldn’t trade anything for it. It’s definitely given me a taste of what running my own studio would be like.

Any big plans?
Focusing more on my artwork and eventually in the far future opening my own studio would be a goal. I’ve been enjoying tattooing and creating flash and designs that people like and would want to get. Tattoos are similar to piercings, it’s an expression of yourself – but on your body. Being a part of that process and helping people express themselves is something I love to do!
