Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydneigh Blue.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making wigs the summer before going to college in 2017 because I was a cheerleader for my university; and we had to wear our hair straight or curled. Wearing wigs would be more cost-effective and convenient than sew-ins because wigs would last longer and be quicker to install. I always did my hair and others when I was growing up, so it didn’t take long to get the hang of it. After promoting to my friends and teammates, I began making wigs for them and many young ladies on campus.
I used social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram to promote my work and eventually started making wigs for women not only on campus but in all of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. After the continuous growth of what began as a side hustle and seeing other wig makers/hairstylists on social media, I upgraded from making wigs by hand to making wigs via sewing machine. This was highly beneficial to my business because it was a newer concept and created a stronger, longer-lasting wig.
In 2020, I stopped cheering for my university, and most of my classes were virtual due to COVID-19, which led me to focus on Wig Life more than ever. I set a goal to run a six-figure business before graduating college because I wanted to prove to myself that it was possible. I also wanted to finish college with an established business and not just be getting started. Wig Life became a six-figure business that year and shipped wigs to women across the United States. Today, I am an HBCU graduate and full-time entrepreneur/wig-maker.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship has not been one easy journey. Over the years, I’ve learned that there will be good times and there will also be tough times. There are also things you can’t control, and you must figure out how to navigate them. Most of my entrepreneurship journey was while I was in college, and my biggest challenge was ensuring I put enough time into my business outside of my classes/schoolwork.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wig Life?
Wig Life is an online wig store specializing in fully customized glue-less wigs for women who like to protect their natural hair and look fabulous while doing so. Our customers can customize mainly everything about their Wig Life Unit, including the cap size, color, length, part, etc., unlike wigs from other companies. Each wig is sewn by machine and made to the customer’s unique requests. Wig Life also offers hair extensions, products, and wig maintenance services.
What makes you happy?
Some days I may be down or stressed out, but I suddenly feel better once my hair is done, and I know many women can relate, which is why I love creating something they love and can’t wait to wear. It truly makes me happy to see my customers comfortable and confident with their hair.
