Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Beat.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My “story” so far is so full of ups and downs that, I truly believe it is all due my hard work, persistence, and faith! So, since I was young, I knew I wanted to be a business owner of some type. From the time I was able to legally work, (16) I worked in Pharmacy, but then I was asked to work for an Allstate agent and the rest is history because I fell in love with P&C insurance. I worked as a P&C insurance agent with a couple different agents over about 10 years before I took my leap of faith and started, Beat Insurance Services, LLC. an independent insurance agency! But those 10 years were NOT easy. It was rough building a book of business, gaining clients’ trust, and becoming a trusted advisor over those years. My journey into the insurance industry really started with a captive Allstate agent, whom I met through a friend and agreed to start part-time! I was able to learn so much about insurance, the good, the bad, and the ugly. How I wanted to do it and not do it when I owned my own agency. I quickly learned that part-time was not feasible in the insurance world and went full-time. That P&C test took me about 4 attempts but I never gave up. After I passed, I was selling like crazy. I just loved it. I was proving to be great at it and quickly moved up the ladder within Allstate to manager, then manager of multiple offices, and then decided to work from home. After almost 7 years with Allstate, the owner called me into her office and let me go for NO reason. I was distraught. I wanted to know why and she told me I would know why she let me go later on down the road. (And yes, I know exactly why now).
A couple days later, my Allstate client introduced me to a Goosehead agent and I decided to go to work for him. I graduated #1 in our 2-week Goosehead training class and won an iPad, but he was a big-time perfectionist and we did not mesh well together. Thankfully, we parted ways after about 5 months!
I had met a lady who ran a women networking luncheon and also owned an independent agency that she started from scratch about a year prior. She needed help growing her business and asked me to come and work for her 1099 commission only agent. I agreed and LOVED it. Our partnership lasted almost 3 years before my husband surprised me and said that he had saved up enough for me to start my own agency, Beat Insurance Services LLC, in January 2020. Now here we are almost 3 years into Beat Insurance Services and KILLING it. We just hired two new sales agent and are looking for more employees to help us grow. We are now in TX, AL, FL, KS, NE, IA, AZ, MI and hoping to add 4 more states by year-end. We are hoping to be in every state in the US and have at least one agent in every state.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road 100 percent of the time. Being “let go” from a company or place of employment is very hard on a person/family. It makes the person feel like they have failed at what they were just doing SO wonderful at. Although the person who let them go may say they are still that awesome person, it just stings the person let go and they feel another way. It takes a minute to dust yourself off and get back up. It is hard to get back out there and find a new position. Plus, when you are an insurance agent it is even harder building your book back up from zero!!! That means you start at $0 and it takes years to get that money flowing again. It is very hard. Having done this from ground up not once, not twice but three times, I understand what other agency owners or agents are going through. I can relate with them and I love to inspire them. I love to help new agents get off the ground and running, whether that be at my agency or starting their own agency, I just love helping agents see that it can be done. Hard work does pay off, it just takes time, effort, and persistence.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We will BEAT your insurance rates. Hands down every time. Why you ask? Well, that is just the way I have set up our agency and agents. We are set up to succeed. We take the time to review your current insurance policy, go over it all with you and let you know what you have and may not have and be missing. Then we make sure that we go shop with our over 60 different carriers to find you a better policy/policy that will cover you, your family, and everything you have. We don’t cut corners and we don’t remove coverages to lower the price. We are honest, hardworking, and passionate about insurance, so you can trust what we are telling you. I have set up the agency with wonderful insurance carriers that will cover your claim and make sure you are protected. If the carrier does not do this, we will get on that carrier or drop that carrier! We do not mess around when it comes to our clients. We make sure they come first.
What do you think about happiness?
My family makes me the most happy but second would be a happy client. When you have a happy client, you have a happy agent and that just makes for happy everything else. Happiness is contagious, so I want everyone and everything to be happy. This is one of my main goals in life. Whenever my kids are happy that also makes me happy. Those smiles just can melt my heart.
