Today we’d like to introduce you to Wellington Marinho.
Wellington, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I could say ” I knew exactly what I wanted since I was a little kid” but, that’s not the truth and I realized that’s ok if you don’t, it’s a hard process but in the end, it works just fine. I started graduating in Journalism back in 2010 in Brazil, back then I didn’t know Architecture was my passion. After that, I decided to live in Madri and Bilbao/ Spain for a while. I spent 6 months learning the language and living in their culture and in between I was fascinated by the ancient architecture from there. The old castles, churches, and houses made of stone, I wanted to study how to make people feel good at the house, I wanted to know how to design a place that they can call home and have memories that can last forever. Just like I had traveled to there. Back in Brazil, I decided to study architecture and graduated in 2015. Since then, I’ve been exploring and discovering my own style, and living in the USA for 10 years was essential to discover my own path from European influences to the Brazilian “tropicalism”. I believe everything is part of the process, to continue studying is primordial. I’m also an interior designer from the New York Institute of Art and Design school, that way I could figure out my own process, my own design, and how I can reflect that to my clients: using minimalism, and a cozy but luxurious style, but most importantly that personal touch that just a good feeling can bring it. To be where I am today was part of a journey that is still going on and will never end. I will continue learning, absorbing, and living all that life can give me on the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To seek your own path is never a smooth way. Can be easier in some aspects for some people, but that’s not all the case. If I wasn’t an open mind person I could never be where I am. Different countries, languages, metric systems…what I can say is it’s hard, but you can do it if you really want it. And it all about adding skills, knowledge, and experiences, and from it, you can work anywhere… And between me and you, if wasn’t so hard I would never have the feeling of working more and harder and that getting there, was worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Every architect/ Interior Designer is an artist. I came from a very creative family, we all learned how to explore our sensibility from the beginning. The world is the most intense teacher. My inspiration comes from it. I love to travel, to see how people interact with architecture, how they put life in an empty room, and how they see the space around them. I could say I specialized in making people feel good in their homes, in to bring what was missing and I’m proud of that. Everybody is unique, if you’re making too much effort to stand out, you’re not being yourself… you’re unique and people will know that naturally. My talent comes naturally and with the freedom to explore, to advise, to show a different point of view. that’s what me different
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters the most for me is the feeling of doing what I love to do and after that seeing/feeling that I’ve done something meaningful for someone.
