Daily Inspiration: Meet Autumn Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing hair at 16 years old. I always had a passion to enhance or bring out the beauty inside of a person. I felt that this was my destiny. I’m self-taught, I would sit for hours to come up with new techniques, etc on how to do locs and quick weaves. I would practice on my little sister at the time and friends just until I got well enough to step out publicly with quality affordable hairstyles. Once I graduated high school and went off to college Lincoln university of Pa my clientele grew and I was doing hair and providing hair on campus to classmates. What started as just my passion became a lifestyle.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is smooth. It was challenging. I struggled with my inner self honestly, I was so afraid of actually being successful. I wanted to be a Global brand but I struggled with procrastination. I struggled with the fact that if I actually made it how would I be able to accommodate the clientele I would receive. Some days I wanted to quit and I actually did. I quit for a few years after I had my daughter, but as I sent her to school with braids and beads other parents began to book me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, I’m hairstylist, A published author, and mentor. I specialize in soft locs, quick weaves, faux locs, and crochets braids. I also have a book out called purposed pain, and I mentor other stylists in the DFW area on how to start selling hair, the pros and cons of being in the hair industry, and how to successfully build a brand that will bring you generational wealth. I’m most proud of me not many people can pick up move to a different state and become Successful. I moved my children and I 7 states away without knowing anyone to be obedient to the voice of God and that’s major for me.

What sets me apart from others is my ambition, my drive, the ability to change any situation I am in no matter the circumstances or outcome. Knowing that God goes before me and he orchestrates and orders my steps because I was called to be set apart from birth.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is a journey of accomplishments over the years, that you can Trace and is obtainable to anyone who has the drive passion, and ambition. You have to push past the limits and think outside the Box, your ability to Be different will set you up for success.
