Daily Inspiration: Meet Catie Shadley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catie Shadley.

Hi Catie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We sell greeting cards that pack a pun-ch.

Lemon Lines is a boutique greeting card company helping people bring out the zest in every occasion.

Our shop started in Austin, Texas in 2019 with a desire to make people laugh and feel loved not only with unique, punny messaging and imagery but also through the quality of our product. Every Lemon Lines A2 greeting card is illustrated by hand and printed on fine art vellum card stock and matched with a euro flap kraft envelope and protective sleeve.

Please enjoy perusing through our shop – we hope you find something juicy!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is never smooth! But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad road to go down. Retailers have passed on my collection; sales have been slow in the past. With these challenges, I wonder “what is it that they don’t like? Am I not XYZ enough?” But I can’t let these moments eat me up inside. I have to take it head-on, iterate, follow up, keep thinking of new ideas, and never stop being bold.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Within Lemon Lines, I also offer custom orders. I create cards specific to a company or an occasion. Anything from personal thank you cards, to custom puppy drawing cards, to custom house cards — all specific to a client’s desires. It’s fun thinking outside of the box alongside my customers, making their vision come to life!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
1. I can’t get in my head. I have to be honest with the highs and the lows and remind myself there is always something I can be working on to make this business better, and it’s only up to me to do it.

2. Have fun – I mean, come on, greeting cards are fun! They are supposed to make people smile and laugh. It’s so important that my enjoyment of creating cards shines through in the design and sentiment to those who purchase them.
