Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Ferraro.
Hi Tony, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started with fighter jets and family members. I’d copy cartoon characters from TV. When I was 12 my buddies’ band had a show coming up and needed a graphic. I conjured a clunky collage with amateur hand lettering and a stream of tape. Then I walked my happy little butt to the copy shop. And the show was pretty good.
At 16, I became a fan of Darren Paul of Ice Planet Design. He gifted me years of his band posters–black ink on bright letter paper, fully hand-drawn, sci-fi comic-y, spacegirls, monsters, tip-top lettering. Heavenly. His lead I followed for years.
Around 21, my pal Dave Howard turned me on to reading. I fell for John Fante, and I especially fell for Barbara Martin’s covers. Minimal, living geometry. Soon I added a laptop to my desk and commenced seeking work.
Along the way, I created Brenda Buttwell, a one-panel, one-liner character. I released “Origami Lasagna”, a book with ~200 Brendas and three original sketches.
In 2016, I joined the Shirtalog.com team.
Finally, I went full-blown independent, founding Team Wheels Design in 2017. Now, I mostly design logos for podcasts, sports teams, lawyers, radio shows, bands, so on. I do all manners of music paraphernalia. I love to do album/single covers. I love event posters. I’ve done TV/movie title cards. My favorite is book cover design. If you have an idea, hit me up. I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Struggles, plenty. I could elaborate, but that wouldn’t be polite 😀

I specialize in logos: podcasts, sports teams, lawyers, radio shows, bands/artists, more. I love to do album/single covers, event posters, title cards, book cover design, so on.
I’m proud to see any other person working hard. It’s a simple and great reminder to just get down and do something, anything, to better any aspect of your world.
Also, I take many a break, many a walk.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
