Life & Work with Cindy Liebel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Liebel.

Hi Cindy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been creative since my early childhood… I inherited my love of photography from my grandfather and my love of textiles and making clothes from my mom. My father gave me a Kodak 110 camera and I captured our life on the road during our military travels. I also spent a lot of time on the weekends shopping for patterns and fabrics to make the next outfit for the week with my mom. I loved the art of creating something no one else would have and the quality of time.

After college and working in the corporate world for so many years, I ventured into metalsmithing and jewelry making. I didn’t wear a lot of jewelry while my kids were young, I only wore my wedding ring, but had a small collection I purchased or was gifted over the years. I wanted to get back into wearing jewelry but didn’t really see much I liked on the market at that time. A friend was wire wrapping beaded jewelry and I love her pieces. I found out there was a local goldsmith in town teaching basic metalsmithing and wire wrapping classes and I’ve been hooked ever since. The creative aspect of the craft is mesmerizing to me and I couldn’t stop learning and making. I mostly made pieces for myself, then I started making and selling jewelry to my friends and family. At that moment, I knew it was time open an online shop to sell to others interested in my work and I continue to grow and evolve in this creative space.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, there are struggles along the way, juggling motherhood, running a micro business all by myself, making all the jewelry, finding time for entertainment, and having a life outside of my business is all challenging. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Working from home allows me to have more time with my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a love affair with intricate jewelry that’s timeless and effortlessly easy to wear. As a metalsmith and designer, I handcraft delicate adornments, like hoop earrings, using recycled precious metal materials such as silver and 14K gold fill and 14K gold. My goal is to encourage you to exercise your creativity while playfully remixing styles in a way that speaks to you and feel confidently beautiful in the process.
