Life & Work with Janie Bergamasco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janie Bergamasco.

Hi Janie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
The Devil’s Darlins started when we met in another band. Janie’s Mom, Nancy, had written a lot of original music and we wanted to get together to play. We have always loved rockabilly music. Janie started out as a classical opera singer. Brittany, our bassist, studied music and has an MA. Krissy has been playing in metal bands and has been on multiple tours since 2012. All in all, the group formed based on mutual respect and also a love for music. It’s a collaborative effort that is always based on fun and creativity!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We learned from our previous experiences in other groups- avoiding the same pitfalls, and speaking from a place of honesty. In the past, one band member has had the decision-making power and not treated the band as equal contributors. When we decided to start the Devil’s Darlins, it’s been an easy transition because we all listen to each other and recognize that each member brings something unique to the table. We stand to gain so much from each other. We know a band is not an individual effort.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are an all-girl band, which is unique. Our style is a fusion of rockabilly, rock and roll, blues, and surf rock. We have a lot of originals that we are looking forward to sharing with the world and we are proud of the vibe we have created as a band- on stage, we enjoy every moment and our rapport brings great chemistry. Through all this, we embrace our style by wearing what defines us on stage. Janie is the pinup, Brittany is the Aphrodite, Nancy is the Western silver Darlin’, and Krissy is the edgy rocker that balances us out.

What matters most to you?
Enjoying music and having fun! Not forcing anything and allowing everyone to be their full and authentic selves. Embracing each other fully prevents resentment and most importantly allows us to share music and do what we love.
