Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittanie McGee.
Hi Brittanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Frisco, TX until moving to Nashville, TN to attend Vanderbilt University. I now live in McKinney, TX with my husband, Evan, and two dogs, Milo & Hendo. I found my calling of training dogs when I got my first German Shepherd, Milo, and saw how rewarding and fun having a balanced relationship with my dog can be. People gets dogs to enjoy life with a loyal and fun companion in their home, but often times they forget that these are living animals with specific needs to live a fulfilled life in this unnatural human world we have put them in. I love educating owners and showing them how to fulfill their dogs in a way that is fun while also eliminating the constant conflict and stress people tend to deal with their dogs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing my business has been hard as a newer trainer. After working under my mentor for the first couple of years training dogs, it was time to branch off and start my own training business in my home. Thanks to her support, it has been going well this first year! I look forward to continuing to help dog owners and am grateful for my clients who spread the word and want to share in this gift of enjoying their dogs more!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
McGee Dog Training was inspired by my first dog, Milo! I quickly learned how much more enjoyable and fulfilling life with a dog can be when you focus on playing, engaging with, and training your dog and building value in your relationship in ways other than just giving them constant physical affection and freedom to make choices we don’t like in our house. I am known as the “German Shepherd” lady, as I tend to attract those struggling with their reactive Shepherds. I do welcome all breeds and ages though! I specialize in teaching basic obedience, house manners, and off-leash recall.
People tend to think training their dog takes hours of time every day to see results. I want as many owners as possible to know that that is not necessary to have a well-behaved family dog! Whether we are choosing to or not, we are training our dogs every minute of every day! My goal is to show owners that getting a well-behaved dog takes little lifestyle changes and improving our own human habits with our dogs, NOT hour-long “training sessions”. Every dog owner IS a dog trainer with their own dog! I hope that those who work with McGee Dog Training will learn a more fulfilling way of life with their dog.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was and have always been more introverted. If you know what the enneagram is, I’m a type 9 to a T! I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old and haven’t stopped yet! I played soccer in college and have always enjoyed watching and playing all different sports. I enjoy being competitive and am constantly striving towards personal and business goals!
