Today we’d like to introduce you to Lupe Castillo.
Hi Lupe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been making tamales for over 10 yrs. and remember helping my family make them when I was a child. I practiced this labor of love by making tamales for my friends and friends of friends.
When Covid came about, I decided to make tamales to make ends meet and it quickly caught on. I started selling my food through posts on social media. I even offered curbside delivery (following CDC guidelines, of course). A girlfriend of mine runs a local market and encouraged me join them and sell my goods there… People loved the idea of locally sourced products and the sense of supporting their community…. plus, they told me my food was DELICIOUS 😋. Before I knew it, we would sell out of food every time!
We were recently recognized for our accolades in a local magazine and couldn’t be more excited. We still sell our special ordered tamales, farmers market, and events, catering, and benefits… As for me, I’m still working on making the best food I can make to feed others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We started during Covid. There were more learning experiences rather than challenges since I had never sold tamales to the public in a market setting before. We had to wear masks and gloves in the heat and freeze during the colder months at our markets. We sold out of food every time though.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a local brand, created in Fort Worth, Texas. We specialize in artisan tamales and fresh homemade salsas. We prepare all of our food in a commercial kitchen, then “pop up” at several farmers’ markets and catering-style events. Our team is made up of people who believe in our product’s quality and love its taste.
I’m on a journey to learn everything there is to know about how to provide quality food to our guests and encourage a sense of gratitude and thankfulness in customer relations.
We are the first to mass produce the smoked meat tamales in our area and we just won a few recognitions for being the best. We are humbled by this honor and the honor of answering your questions. 🙂
We offer special orders, catering, special events, and pop-up services.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can buy our food, tell others about us and show up at our events to see how we’re doing! We value constructive help and support. We are all in this together. 😉
