Inspiring Conversations with Jaime Papa of JVP Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Papa.

Hi Jaime, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Regis University in 2005. I also earned my Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2009. I interned with the Office of the Denver District Attorney, the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, and competed in various moot court competitions, both national and international. In addition, I was elected President of the Jewish Law Students Association and Secretary of the Student Trial Lawyers Association.

After law school, I felt called to military service for our country, so I was commissioned as a field artillery officer in the United States Army. During a deployment to Afghanistan, I led a platoon on over 100 combat missions, bringing home safely all of the soldiers under my command.

I earned a position with an excellent printing company named Belmark, Inc. and worked for them in business-to-business sales generating over $17 million in five years. I earned my licenses during this time and practiced law in Missouri and Texas. I filed lawsuits against more than ten companies located in multiple states, achieving successful results in each case.

In addition, I served as a company commander in the United States Army Reserve and a tutor and essay grader for BarMax. After transitioning from Belmark, Inc., I received offers to work for a corporate law firm and a family law firm. I worked as a family law attorney for O’Neil Wysocki for a brief amount of time before opening the doors to my own law firm on January 6, 2021.

I invested heavily in my education and technology to support my law firm and ensure that my clients receive superior service. I am committed to protecting families and business owners for a lifetime through business law, estate planning, and civil litigation. I have used the estate planning training and business law training I received to help numerous clients since January 2021, and have settled multiple litigation cases for clients saving them time, money, and reducing their overall stress.

I love what I do!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my law firm was tough because I was new to Dallas, TX and I had very few connections. The first three months were extremely tough. I went from working as an employee, making a salary to making nothing. In fact, my mom was my first client. With a young family to support, I had to work hard and smart.

As an estate planner, I had two clients call me while I was on a vacation with devasting news. One of my clients had passed away and the other had a significant medical issue. In both situations, I quickly responded, helping my client’s families through these critical situations. I have helped numerous families understand that an effective estate plan is far more than a document. It is a well-thought-out and well-developed plan that can help a family save money, reduce stress, and effectively react to predictable life circumstances, including incapacity or death. My time in the U.S. Army has really helped me with planning.

When it comes to business law, cryptocurrency has been my biggest challenge. The space is new and the ground seems to move under my feet. Things are changing quickly in this space, and it takes a lot of research to ensure clients are protected.

As a commercial litigator, it is always tough hearing about how my clients have been taken advantage of by others, but I am comfortable stepping into different areas of the law and am able to come up with creative strategies for my clients, pulling from more than 16 areas of the law. In one of my early litigation cases, I won by picking apart the business I was up against and forcing opposing counsel to settle. In another case, I leveraged both criminal and civil law to get my client her property and justice in the form of prison time for her abuser.

We’ve been impressed with JVP Law, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JVP Law, PLLC aims at protecting families and businesses for a lifetime. JVP Law, PLLC’s focus is on estate planning, probate, business law, and commercial litigation.

I am the managing member of JVP Law, PLLC, and I work with clients on estate plans, probate matters, their businesses, or through the commercial litigation process.

What sets me apart from others is that I treat my clients like I treat my family or myself. I know what it feels like to be in a legal battle and have no one to turn to for help. I know exactly what it feels like to have that stress, uncertainty, and anger building up. For this reason, I focus on resolving issues effectively.

I am inspired in part by how I have read that Abraham Lincoln practiced law. He did not overcharge his clients and went above and beyond to achieve effective results for his clients in numerous cases. I have strived to align my law firm’s philosophy with Abraham Lincoln’s, because at the end of the day I became an attorney to help people.

I am very proud of my brand because it is a brand focused on protecting families and businesses for a lifetime. I believe in G-d and believe that G-d is always watching how I treat others and expects me to always treat them with respect and dignity. In the United States Army, we say that integrity is doing the right thing when no one else is looking. My brand is focused on treating my clients with dignity and respect, protecting them, and doing what is right when no one is looking. My brand is also about being the best by defining wins and achieving wins for my clients. In the United States Army, I was taught that losing is never an option, because when we lose that may mean soldiers could be injured or killed. Although not all my clients are facing injury or death, I am still conscious of the fact that my clients came to me to put them in a better position than they were when the hired me, therefore I am adamant about achieving nothing less than the win my client and I have defined.

I want your clients to know that I intend to grow JVP Law, PLLC into the greatest law firm in the world. I want your clients to know that when they sign up with my law firm, they have signed up with a law firm that genuinely cares for their families and businesses. I also want your clients to know that I commonly partner with exceptional law firms that I am close with to strengthen the odds of success in every matter. This does not cost my clients extra. I simply split the fees my clients pay me with these other law firms.

How do you define success?
Success for me is serving G-d, taking care of my perfect wife, taking care of our family, and making sure that JVP Law, PLLC truly protects families and businesses for a lifetime. It is not just a slogan; it is how I live my life. Success is watching my law firm take care of a person and watching their confidence build as they become protected through estate planning and business law or reach successful outcomes in litigation.
