Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Goll.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated from Texas A&M with a major in Communications & Business minor, unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. I ended up landing in corporate America after college for years and never felt like I had reached my calling. When I met my now husband, he dragged me to a real estate workshop I did not wish to attend and it ended up igniting my future career in real estate. I figured if others could be this successful at real estate investing as me being a people person, who loves to talk, I could succeed.
I worked a full-time 8-5 job while being a mom raising my baby girl at the time, a HUGE job on its own, all along with juggling real estate as a side business for about a year. When I had more than made up my income, I decided it was go-time to make it my full-time venture. Which leads me to where I am today! Now I run my business full-time while juggling two gorgeous kiddos so I can make my schedule and have a perfect life/work balance that’s fully in my control. I also am a Realtor, so jack of all trades!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not (easy), there are days when you wonder if you made the right decision. There is no consistent paycheck each month and it’s honestly a gamble at times when you may or may not have your next real estate deal. The job itself comes with some stress and can be pretty scary at times, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. You get told “NO!” more often than not by people wanting to sell/buy and it can be discouraging.
But then there’s the diamond in the rough where someone gives you a chance and it becomes a YES! And it’s the best, most amazing feeling being able to help someone at the same time. I read once, “on the way to yes there will be no’s. You have to go through the no’s to get to your yeses. The mistake many people make is that they become discouraged by the no’s and they quit trying”. So I saved this and read it to myself each day to keep going and stay on the path, because if I quit at let’s say 20 no’s and 21 could’ve been a yes, then why did I give up?
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our business is focused on real estate investing in the DFW metroplex. We focus on buying/selling distressed properties, foreclosures, or families that have recently lost someone and are unable to do anything with the house. Not to say that’s all we focus on, we have colleagues in the same business who bring us deals and us to them. I think what sets us apart from other bigger players out there is that we’re honest and have integrity in our business practices.
I think my proudest moment has been staying in touch with the very first deal I ever completed back in 2018.
She’s a grandmother who lost her husband of 50 years, we still have her house today. She knitted baby blankets for my daughter when she was born and we were even invited to her 80th birthday party. I have a framed letter from her daughter inviting us that I won’t ever get rid of. I still text back and forth to this day to just check in on each other and feel like I did something to help her but she also helped me in so many ways as well. She’s a kind soul.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To keep moving forward and not lose confidence no matter how many no’s you get along the way or how many people doubt you. Because there are lots!
