Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Dodson.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In March 2022, a short film titled “The Last Haul of My Life” was released online. The story follows a popular YouTuber, Not Another Retro Channel, and his fellow DFW toy collector friends, as they come across an evil entity that has been unleashed.
Following the success of the short film, local filmmakers David James Ryan and Michael Goldermann set out to create a prequel. This idea turned into a full-length feature film with a cast of over 50 actors and actresses. Retro Freaks (2022) features many local filmmakers, actors, creators, and toy shops throughout DFW.
This production was entirely produced without a budget and stands alone as its movie but also as a proof-of-concept for crowdfunding a more highly produced version. An Indiegogo campaign will launch the night of the premiere at The Texas Theatre on October 19th. The campaign will feature more information on production, cast, perks, exclusive items, and more!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Making a film is never easy, especially with no budget but when you have a group of passionate creators who truly want to entertain others, it will always be a fun ride! Our skeleton crew filmed over 8 months with multiple locations and a huge cast. The “struggles” have shown how dedicated our team is and just how much we all love what we do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Writers/Directors David James Ryan and Michael Goldermann are multiple award-winning filmmakers for their many short films. This will be their feature film debut, fully produced without a budget.
This feature film, Retro Freaks (2022), is a horror/comedy that allows viewers to sit back and laugh. The cast is stacked, including Andre Gower (The Monster Squad, 1987), Josh Martin (Dragon Ball Z), and many popular YouTubers, such as Not Another Retro Channel, Cincy Nerd, Pixel Dan, Game Chasers Billy, and Unparalleled Universe (just to name a few).
The film also features many toy shops in DFW, including Horror Freak (Bedford), Retro Madness (Bedford), Dallas Vintage Toys (Dallas), and Empire Toys (Keller). We are proud of every single person involved in the making of this film. Seeing so many different people come together to create such a fun project is what making movies is all about.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Everyone remembers Clerks (1994) and classic monster movies from the 1980s. Retro Freaks (2022) is a charming film with a wide variety of personalities. We hope audiences will connect with these characters and see the big picture for the release of our 2024 crowdfunded version.
