Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Medina.
Carmen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, let’s start with before Body Sculpting I was in the nursing field for 16 years.
I loved my job, and I was so good at it. I worked with some of the most amazing doctors, and that taught me so much. I learned all my life lessons on how to be a good person, in nursing. How to be compassionate and how to be willing to learn. Unfortunately in our society now, it’s a lost practice for sure.
About 3 years ago now I started training and being mentored By Aretha at Reset Body Sculpting, I’m still nursing full-time at this point at A highly known hospital here in Dallas (I’ll keep the name out of this because… well you know!) August of 2021 rolled around and they set the Covid Vaccine Mandate and I was forced to make a decision. Stay and be vaccinated or give up my career, my safe place, my greatest accomplishment…
In September 2021 I went full-time with my business and never looked back. some days are so hard, and the nights are harder. I didn’t know I was going to go weeks without sleeping more than 2-3 hours every two days. I didn’t know that I was going to work myself into a nervous breakdown at one point. I just didn’t know.
Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t go back to a full-time 9-5 if I didn’t have to because let me just tell you owning your own business and hearing people that you don’t even know personally speak so highly of you in a room of other Entrepreneurs is breathtaking, I said earlier that nursing was my greatest accomplishment, but it’s not.
Opening my own business on my own with never a business loan and keeping it open for over a year now and keeping flourishing on its own, is my biggest accomplishment. Even on the days I want to give up or I get scared I won’t make the mortgage AND the bills AND daily life, I’m so blessed and so abundantly thankful to God because here I am still pushing! I have this amazing husband Casey and two of the best sons anyone could ever ask for.
When I tell you these three men are my everything! I’ve been with my husband for 22years this in December and married for 12 years. My babies Noah who is 17 and Isaiah who is 14 are the reason I do everything in life. I had a super rough start in life until I was about 12 years old. Money wasn’t always there, neither was somewhere to live or food to eat. I think that is my drive, Truly. To NEVER w be in a position where I couldn’t properly take care of myself or my babies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Defiantly not a smooth road. I was super blessed with my amazing clients though. I would say my marketing could be better I know! but my clientele is currently about 95% word of mouth. In a small business that’s like music to your ears! I had to learn how to get out of my head and comfort zone. I needed to Network and that scared me.
But one day I signed up for a vendor event and another and another and all of a sudden, I was networking! this coming year I look forward to bigger shows, expos in particular. Fingers crossed 2023 will be another great year. One thing I tell my trainees is ” NEVER STOP LEARNING”. I stick to that motto myself so I’m always learning something new.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I specialize in body sculpting and Post Op Maintenance. I break down Fat for someone and it passes through their lymphatic system. I then tighten the skin and help to rejuvenate collagen through heat therapy. When I am explaining it to my clients in their initial consultation I Tell them “Our fat is a thick substance like butter, we melt it down to a lighter thinner consistency until it’s like water and we pass it through their lymphatic system”, that’s the main idea anyway.
But I offer so much more I also do Non-Invasive Brazilian Butt Lifts with cupping therapy (with and without filler) that’s like my biggest seller! I have had women come from other states to see me and have them work on them! I can’t say what I do or give away any secrets. That I save for the women I train. I also do Lip Filler via Hyaluron Pen, Ice Clay Sculpting, and Fat Dissolver. Other services I offer outside of body sculpting are Teeth whitening, Tooth Gems, and just finished my training on Stretch Mark Camouflage.
Out of all the services I offer, my favorite thing to do is train other women to be business owners. Owning a business is so much more than seeing clients and making money. I teach all of my trainees how to be GREAT at their skill and I give them the ongoing knowledge to know their business inside and out. There’s enough money for all of us, I just want to teach women how to make it AND keep making it.
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Pace yourself! Don’t go buy ALLLLLL the things! Start slow you are not in a race or competition there are NO BREAKS in this business you have to hustle harder every day because every day comes and goes and every day is a new opportunity. LEARN LEARN LEARN! Invest in that! invest in training and marketing. Also, don’t beat yourself up, tomorrow is always a new day.
