Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Poovey.
Hi Kenny, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Kenny Poovey and I have been a part of our DFW music scene since 1995 at just 15 years old!
I am the front man lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the band, “Fly Above Fire”
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be on the stage doing music to create a place for anyone to be able to relate to the content and to spread a positive message through real-life experiences and real issues. If just one person is able to find comfort and be able to relate and say, “hey, this guy got through his struggle and if he can do it, I can too”. I truly believe that music saves people sometimes even from themselves. If I can save even just one life from sharing my stories lyrically, then I have served a greater purpose and there is no greater feeling than the realization that you have helped someone.
All of my bandmates in Fly Above Fire share this same approach that music with a positive message is what our world needs now!
We already have a full-length album out called “Revolution” that is available on all streaming platforms.
We are currently recording our second album with an expected early 2023 release.
We have a huge show coming up in the local DFW area on January 28th at Riglea Theater for the annual Metalfest 2023, tons of bands on two stages for the weekend!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Never a smooth road to success, life gets in the way but the biggest setback for us and the music and film industry, in general, has been the ongoing Covid pandemic!
We just try to stay focused and positive. We just keep our eye on the prize and just keep on keeping on!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In addition to my love of music., my wife of 20 years, Jessica Poovey, and I are also actors and producers of horror movies, and of course we brought along Fly Above Fire for the ride!
We are currently involved in the following which are either released or still in current production:
-“Strix” a movie by Abel Berry and Jenn Stone features Kenny Poovey, Jessica Poovey, had a character wearing a Fly Above Fire T-shirt in the film and it also has the Fly Above Fire single “Empty” in the film.
-“Crave: Roots of Evil” a movie by Remy St. Paul, features Kenny Poovey, Jessica Poovey, all of Fly Above Fire and we wrote a song specifically for the film called ” We Are The Brave” which I actually perform on an acoustic guitar in the film.
-“Passages Of Nexus” a movie by Alex Nigo features Kenny Poovey, Jessica Poovey, myself in the film in. Fly Above Fire T-shirt and the Fly Above Fire song “Revolution” is featured in the film.
-“Dr. Gift” a movie by Abel Berry and Jenn Stone features Kenny Poovey and Jessica Poovey.
-“Chick Chick Boom” a movie by Abel Berry and Jenn Stone features Kenny Poovey and Jessica Poovey.

What does success mean to you?
To me happiness is success. My father always told me that “if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life”.
I am blessed to have a loving and supportive wife who lets me chase my dreams, I have amazing bandmates in Fly Above Fire who share the same vision and a loving family as well as some of greatest friends anyone could ask for.
To me that is success! For me personally, it is sort of that age-old adage that money doesn’t make you rich, love makes you rich!
