Meet Melanie Hancock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Hancock.

Hi Melanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Being from Germany, I never had the chance to celebrate Halloween. But when my hubby and I married and I moved to the States with him in 1999, I was bit by the bug. We decorated every year and created a home haunt that attracted many kids. We eventually opened a professional Haunted House and realized that there wasn’t a source for realistic-looking skulls. So, I ended up teaching myself how to make our own silicone molds and cast our own skulls and that’s when Nightmare Makers was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Silicone is a very expensive product, and there is certainly a trial-and-error phase involved in teaching yourself how to mold. The first molds were definitely faulty and not pretty, but over the years I’ve perfected my craft!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I handcraft human-size silicone skull and femur molds with which my customers can cast a plethora of products themselves. I also sell skulls in various sizes (mini, small, life-size, and XL), femur and humerus bones, and pumpkins all cast in polyurethane foam or resin. I pride myself in the quality of my products and always make sure my customers are taken care of and happy with their purchase.

We created a skull wall in our kitchen that has received countless of shares and views on social media. Our skull backsplash is famous 🙂

I have a wide variety of very realistic-looking skulls available to choose from which sets me apart from the very few other companies that produce skull molds.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I love what I do! It excites me every time I see my products in people’s home or integrated in yard decorations or haunted house sets. It’s never too late to learn something new
