Exploring Life & Business with Kwesi Reynolds of Eggsellent Cafe on Lemmon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kwesi Reynolds.

Kwesi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts in the mitten state, at summer camp, washing dishes. Fast forward a lot of years; high school, the navy, hurricane Katrina, Iraq, college, graduation, film school blah blah blah and I was back in the dish pit, this time at Eggsellent Cafe in Dallas, Texas. I found out early that cleaning was not only therapeutic but while doing it was there (elbow-deep in dirty dishes) I got some of best creative ideas. So, in search of inspiration the universe delivered me to Eggsellent. But before I got even wrist deep into some dishes the owner at the time walked up to me and said, “You can’t wash dishes, you serve” I quickly replied, “No thank you, I’m just here to wash dishes. But thank you for the opportunity.” We went back and forth for a little while but in the end, he won and that day I started my serving career.

Fast forward one more time; me serving, loving it, life happening, me in Atl, GA for months pursuing film opportunities, COVID blah blah and I’m back at Eggsellent serving after running into the old owner.

When the opportunity of ownership presented itself, it was something I knew was destined and since taking over I am nothing but grateful and it’s no looking back.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not smooth at all, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. The biggest struggles honestly are my own. Having to grow in places I didn’t know existed, having to become a better communicator, having to become a better leader.

Growing myself is the biggest “struggle” if we had to use that word. Humbling myself, telling myself to stop talking and listen, telling myself that my idea may not be the best idea.

I could go on for days, but it starts with me and I’m better from it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Eggsellent Cafe is one of kind restaurant located in right outside downtown Dallas. We currently offer a menu that includes one-of-a-kind breakfast, brunch, and lunch items including but not limited to our Biscuit and Gravy Omelette or our Chicken Fried Chicken. What sets us apart is our menu, our customer service, and our atmosphere. Full bar, music, great energy, from the moment you enter you feel the difference between us and them.

What we’re most proud of us repeat customer rate. We pride ourselves on making you want to come back not only twice but every weekend. We want our restaurant to come to mind when family engagements need a venue and milestones are being reached. We have a full bar, a private dining room that seat 50 people, and a patio.

Unique infrastructure, amazing staff, and a kitchen that can convert to any occasion.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to be to Pray, study your banking app, and account for every single penny that goes in and out, Pray, be patient with ourself and when all else fails, pray. Because it works! I’m Proof.
