Daily Inspiration: Meet Steven Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Peters.

Hi Steven, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I feel there is a lack of LGBTQ+ representation when it comes to talk shows and podcast shows. There is definitely big figures, like Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, but when you turn on morning TV and your podcast feed, there isn’t much to choose from. I decided to start a new podcast show titled “He’s My Girl”, a place for people of the LGBTQ+ community to come to chat about all the things; open relationships, dating, social and political issues, you name it. Thus far, I have had a friend come on to chat about his coming out story, my own coming out story, and a friend that found his boyfriend on reality TV. I look forward to many more interviews with people from all different backgrounds!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So far so good, though I will say, podcasting is not as easy as it may sound. It’s truly like another job! It takes a lot of my time to schedule, interview, edit, and post on social media to get and maintain a following and listenership. However, I absolutely love it. I really feel that this is what I’m supposed to be doing.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My full-time job is an educator, but the podcast has quickly become a part of who I am. I love having conversations with people, especially people that are different from me or come from different backgrounds and situations. I believe we still all have so much to learn and can do so just with conversation. “He’s My Girl” will become that place to do so.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I don’t know that luck has had much to do with the success this far with the show, but I do know loyalty has. I have tons of people already that have reached out with nothing but love for the show and the episodes that have been released. I’ve been stopped a few times out in the city with people telling me that they love the show and are happy to have an outlet to hear stories from other people in the community.
