Meet Brianna Fleming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Fleming.

Hi Brianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was born and raised in Indiana! There’s not much out there except for cornfields, and Indy 500. That being said, On May 11th, 2019, I graduated from Indiana State University, and I was in Dallas on May 12th. I could not wait to experience entertainment, good eats, sports teams, amusement parks, and of course, warm weather.

More importantly, I knew I wanted to make a difference in the Dallas community. I want to help undeserved and homeless communities and ensure they receive much-needed resources. I am thankful to have found CitySquare – a poverty-fighting, non-profit located in the heart of Dallas. I started my journey as a Team Lead AmeriCorps member, and now I am a Program Manager. I’m truly grateful for my journey at CitySquare!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the non-profit sector, we’re often limited to a very strict or small budgets. But luckily, I have superior budgeting skills, and have stretched my budgets far! I often include the communities’ voice in choosing how to allocate funds. I also have been fortunate enough to single-handedly raise over $215K for a Mobile Pantry pilot.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a Program Manager, I oversee three programs – Mobile Pantry, Mobile Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in diverse and under-served communities. I ensure that families are receiving nutritious food needed to survive and support one another.

I curated and found grant funding for our Mobile Pantry program, which piloted in 2021. Unlike most Mobile Pantry programs, we deliver 40+ pounds of food directly to our neighbor’s doorstep for FREE! We only ask that our neighbors complete an online registration. We have successfully served over 500 families thus far.

The solution to hunger is food.

How do you define success?
I truly believe that success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. You can find happiness by fulfilling your purpose passionately.
