Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Davies.
Hi Elena, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My conception story is an interesting one…
TLDR: I was “discovered” on Twitter back in 2013…
Long story: I was a huge fan of Kidd Kraddick (the person and the show)… I listened every morning on my way to work at my family’s company in Fort Worth… I quickly realized how much joy it brought me… especially during a really hard time in my life… I would pull up KiddTV at work and watch the show back a couple of times… and I would engage with the cast on Twitter almost daily…
Kidd took an interest in me… followed back, replied, Retweeted, etc., and I thought I had peaked… Shortly after Kidd shockingly passed… Kellie Rasberry began to reach out… I started popping on the show as a huge fan until I was somewhat introduced to the audience and then officially hired on as a part-time on-air personality and phone screener in 2015…
This was, at the time, my absolute dream job… working in radio for a top-rated nationally syndicated morning show in a major market… without experience… UNHEARD OF. This was also my first “taste” of the entertainment industry, and I loved it. I LOVE making people laugh and I love attention… haha!
After a couple of years with The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, I was contacted by a Reality TV recruiter to apply for CBS’ Big Brother 19… which I originally declined (can you imagine the reservations I must have had regarding reality tv after having reported on all the drama and production interference on the radio for years?)… after some consideration and the harsh reality that the Kidd Kraddick show wasn’t as much of my “dream job” that I had originally thought…
So, I got a spray tan and put on a cute hat to begin the casting process for Big Brother! I filmed the entire show (3 months long), trauma bonded, fell in love on TV, and trauma bonded.
Big Brother is an anomaly in the traditional reality tv world because it is one of the longest-running shows with 24 “regular” seasons of the show, has the longest filming time, it is designed to be a social experiment, and extremely mentally tough on houseguests, it has more marriages and babies than almost every other dating show, and is filmed and aired in real time… so, in June when we leave for the show and in October when we return home, our lives have done a full 180… there is NO time to process the mental warfare, the readjustment to “normalcy”, the fame, etc.
My relationship post-show became toxic and ultimately ended publicly… the fighting and cheating landing in major publications like E! News, People, US Weekly, etc., and then on another reality TV show about Exes on MTV… and then was drawn out as we went back-and-forth for over a year. Embarrassing.
I’ve used the platform I created via radio and television, though, to build my own brand and business.
I can happily say that I have found a lot of purpose and success with MiscELENAeous LLC… I am able monetize making people laugh by partnering with incredible brands on Instagram and my podcast!
I always hope to do what Kidd did for me… Make people laugh during the tough times, mundane times, wonderful times, and every time in between. Being alive is basically a scam and I, personally, couldn’t do it without laughter!
Humor and relatability are my overall platform purpose but beyond that I hope to encourage women to learn to love themselves wholly, celebrate their uniqueness, and find their confidence, as well as encourage body neutrality.
I also speak A LOT on mental health… primarily sharing my struggles, journey, and treatment plan, with jokes along the way, of course.
Another focal point of my content is sex positivity and education as well as female health and hygiene… both of which don’t get enough attention.
I am currently re-branding MiscELENAeous to reflect the evolution of my brand that will include a Merch and video elements for the podcast. I am hoping to see this launch January 2023!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting to this place has been a wildly bumpy and often time miserable journey… but being a light or laugh for folks makes it worth it… also the success! I am literally making money off of just being ME! Filming Big Brother, while an incredible experience of a lifetime that has brought me the best of friends and a lot of happiness, was difficult to experience… as well as, but not limited to: processing and healing from that… receiving daily hate and even death threats… my relationship and public breakup… my mental health’s rapid decline… learning everything about entrepreneurship, self-employment, and influencing the hard way… failed projects… lost friendships…
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
This sounds so cheesy and maybe even a bit cliche… but I specialize in being ME! I have never fit inside the box and that has actually added challenges throughout my life; since grade school, I was encouraged to behave and exist in a certain way ORRR ELSE I wouldn’t succeed (in school, in relationships, in life) and the irony of it all is that I’ve actually made my entire living off of simply being… Elena!
Being me is my superpower. Being me is the only thing in the world that no one else can do!
Not playing by the rules and being unapologetically myself is how I’ve earned my career and my life. (I look forward to the day that Mi at a red light next to my 11th-grade chemistry professor in my G Wagon! People telling me that I can’t do something has always been such an incredible motivator).
There is a certain culture in the Instagram influencing industry that I never caved to (because it just wasn’t “me”) and that set me apart… especially years back before “authenticity” and the realness of TikTok became popularized.
I’m funny. I’m accepting and loving. I’m never perfect but I am always me. THAT is what I am most proud of.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Relatability, humor, consistency, originality, creativity, authenticity, ambition, self-motivation, adaptability, having a nice ass.
