Hidden Gems: Meet Brianna Hogg of Boss Hogg Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Hogg.

Hi Brianna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
If I could describe myself in one word, that would be: servant. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been passionate about serving others and giving back to my community. Along with serving my community, I have always loved planning events and bringing the community together. It’s something about uplifting people and seeing the smiles on their faces. Those moments made life a little brighter. So, in October 2020, I was blessed with the vision to create a business that allowed me to bring my favorite things together. It was at that moment that Boss Hogg Productions was born.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Boss Hogg Productions (BHP) was birthed during the COVID-19 pandemic, so you can imagine the challenges and obstacles that I faced throughout the beginning stages of its establishment: lack of startup funds, finding venues to host the pop-up shops, spreading the word about the new business — you name it! In addition to those challenges, I was also dealing with many personal challenges. I was still grieving the loss of my biological father and the uncle who raised me; completing my history doctoral journey at Southern Methodist University (SMU); taking care of my oldest aunt, who unfortunately succumbed to complications from COVID-19 in December 2020 and would later bury my aunt/#1 supporter, Helen Hogg, seven months later after succumbing to Lupus Nephritis. Mentally, I was exhausted and ready to throw in the towel, but I am so thankful to have a village that continued to lift me up in prayer and supported me as I pressed forward with Boss Hogg Productions.

We’ve been impressed with Boss Hogg Productions (BHP), but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Brianna Hogg, and I am the CEO/Owner of Boss Hogg Productions, an event production business that brings local small businesses and the Oak Cliff community together by hosting pop-up shops and community events. Boss Hogg Productions, or BHP for short, was founded on October 29, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic due to wanting to support the rise of local small businesses in the Oak Cliff community. At that time, I noticed that many of my friends were starting their businesses but were looking for opportunities to participate in pop-up shops throughout the DFW Metroplex. During that time, there weren’t many pop-up shops being held in the Oak Cliff area. Still, after speaking to my best friend, owner of Sweet Baby TreatZ, and proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Soniqua “Niki” Adaway, in addition to one of my sister-friends and owner of Lady T Productions, Taharkha Allen, it was clear that it was time to create a business that supported the needs and businesses of our community.

What I love more than anything about BHP is that this business is here to uplift and support local small businesses and give back to the youth and the schools in our community. It’s no secret that I am a PROUD ALUMNA of THE SOUTH OAK CLIFF HIGH SCHOOL, and I am an active alumna at my alma mater (so involved that I am now a staff member there LOL). I love serving my community at the place that gave so much to me when I was a student there, and I wanted to do the same for the school’s current students. Over time, I noticed that our homeless student population was increasing, and there were times when many of our students came into our office hungry or clothes because it was cold, or they didn’t have any clothes at home. So, it dawned on me: to use the vendor fees from the pop-up shops to purchase items and donate to the school. Since its founding, BHP has been able to donate funds, food, and even a scholarship to the students of South Oak Cliff High School, and it is my prayer that BHP will continue to provide additional support to not just SOC but other schools in the area.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned along my journey is to learn how to trust God with everything. I live by Jeremiah 29:11, and it has gotten me through some of the hardest tests and trials that life has thrown at me. All you need to do is have faith, trust in God and everything will work out for your good (Romans 8:28).
