Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Thorson.
Hi Kathryn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my love for fine jewelry when I was just a young girl. My grandmother collected rings from around the world and in turn, I began as well. I will always remember my grandmother’s aquamarine & gold ring glimmering on her finger. She never took it off! When she passed, she gave it to me & oh how I cherish it. She had incredible style! What an inspiration she is!
During my travels as a model abroad, my favorite pastime was going to museums and archeological sites to view the masters and ancient people. I remember being enamored by the adorned b.c. women and 1st-century Priests wearing rings on the tops of their fingers! More Inspiration! It was time to move from designing & manufacturing fashion to designing what I love the most! Jewelry!
I created my first line of midi rings & rings in 2012. As popularity of my collection grew, I had requests to expand my offerings with necklaces and earrings, etc. and I did.
When I am not in the studio creating, I am on our land in Taos, NM raising bees, fishing in the rivers, and hiking in the forest.
I am a women of deep faith and a devout Catholic. Praying the Rosary is the most powerful prayer I know. It protects, brings peace, and opens the heart to acceptance. I believe that wearing your cross every day brings peace and trust to you & all who see it.
I will continue to offer heirloom quality pieces that tell a story, that can be worn every day, and passed on to the ones you love.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe passion comes when the road is bumpy. Having faith and prayer will always get me through! We were all affected in different ways from the changes the pandemic brought to our lives around the world!
At that time, I stopped working and designing and made some big changes in my personal and professional life.
This resulted in cleaning the slate entirely! I re-branded my line, have started from scratch on social media, am reaching out & joining new stores.
I feel more alive and creative today than ever before!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is for the people who want to wear their story. If they are a lover of nature and God, then they will find something to adorn themselves with from Kathryn Light. My collection is currently known for the beautiful crosses, Rosaries, and nature-inspired rings that I make.
I am the most proud of the resurrection cross, the Rosary, and the ruby moon ring.
I am in the process of expanding my Devotion line! This is what sets me apart from others.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was backpacking in Idaho with my family. I have always loved the forest, the animals & sounds in nature.
