Today we’d like to introduce you to Denisha Harris.
Hi Denisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Denisha Harris. When we started this company, it was with my cousin who is more like a brother Ken Derby. Originally Marked was made to be a quick business plan. However, we all know that businesses evolve and turn into something way more than what was intended! We had the idea for t-shirts, but I soon realized that marked had a greater calling and purpose. Marked then eventually became my own business and with my cousin now being a big supporter. It became my outlet for a lot of bottled-in emotions. Marked not only became my therapy but it introduced me to what passion was! I now could be this designer, and artist, and gave myself a stronger voice.
However, this journey has been trying, I set out almost five years ago and thought this would be a venture that would pour into itself. So, these last two years I have really been going to events investing into giving looks and experience, and networking. I SET A GOAL FOR 2022 for people to KNOW what MARKED is. I’m not that big on talking so I have tried to let my work speak for itself
But a few months ago, I found myself lacking motivation. Nothing was good enough.
I started interning at the beginning of last year and I wanted to now take my brand to the next level. So, I stopped putting out clothing and learning how to produce quality pieces. I worked on being more than a brand and evolve into a designer.
So today I am now able to introduce Marked as a unique brand to look out for!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe my struggle still to this day is expressing all the things Marked has to offer. Yes, we have street wear. However, what I love to produce is custom pieces, rather it’s designing or artwork I like to produce something with my clientele that no one has. Still, to this day, there isn’t always clientele for that line of fashion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Marked is a custom clothing brand that specializes in combining art and fashion to produce jackets or other original clothing pieces. I specifically specialize in customizing jackets. I’m most proud of recently adding a from-scratch design to my collection.
What are your plans for the future?
For the future 2023, I plan on releasing my first two collections. A collaboration with another local brand and an upscale collection that incorporates jewels and art in a fun creative way. I eventually hope to also throw my first entrepreneurial event called Make Your Mark. While I don’t plan to change, I just plan to evolve my brand into having more one-of-a-kind pieces.
