Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Froelich.
Bill, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was working the last 30 years in corporate America and was looking for a way to leave on my own terms and not somebody else’s terms. The last year before I left my job, I began to develop severe nerve pain in my shoulder and arm. It took several doctors to properly diagnose my condition, which ended up being Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. The pain was exhausting and I eventually decided have my rib surgically removed to hopefully end the pain. While I waited to have my surgery, I decided to try full body Cryotherapy. It did not cure my condition, but it did give me enough relief to sleep a little better and live to fight another day. I told my brother about my experiment with Cryotherapy and he introduced me to the founders of a company called Restore Cryotherapy in Austin. The timing of the introduction was perfect. I ended up being the first franchisee in the country for them and now will be in business for a full year on April 1st. The other thing I liked about the Restore business model was the fact that it included IV drip therapy, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and local targeted cryotherapy. We now have several hundred members and are looking to grow!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just like any start up, we’ve had some hiccups. Since I’m the first franchisee in the country, I don’t have access to years of historical data or marketing insight. I’m beginning to figure out some of the nuances of Facebook and am getting smarter with each campaign. Facebook is a game changer for small business guys like me who want to target by geography, disease and specific demographic groups. Print/ static ads don’t seem to work for us, but video has been terrific. The camera on the new IPhone (and Samsung phones) are so incredible. All our commercials were shot on our IPhones and edited by our agency out in Phoenix, You don’t have to spend $5000 dollars on a good commercial shot to get a good quality spot.
Please tell us about Restore Cryotherapy.
I’m the first franchisee in the country for Restore and could not be more proud of being associated with a great group of entrepreneurs. We coined the phrase Hyper Wellness because it exemplifies our approach: offer cutting edge services that produce dramatic results, make people feel better every time they visit, and hyper stimulate the body’s natural defense mechanisms. For us, Hyper Wellness is a lifestyle that we believe improves the lives of our customers.
Restore’s unique store layout is antithesis of a traditional doctor’s office. We are efficient, fun and social. We educate and provide information in a completely transparent manner so our clients can manage their wellness better. Every day, we help customers achieve their goals around sports performance, pain management, recovery, beauty and overall wellness.
Today, Hyper Wellness modalities include Cryotherapy (localized and whole body), IV Drip Therapy, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, and Compression Therapy. Working in concert, these service help increase the overall performance of the body. We will continue to push for better outcomes and add additional services that fit into our Hyper Wellness mold. We’re the only spa in town to have all of these services available all in one place.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Not exactly my favorite, but definitely my most memorable. I went to Berkner High School in Richardson and our mascot was the Berkner Ram. We (about 8 of us) thought it would be a nice idea to steal a big horn ram from a local farm in Forney and put it in the courtyard at the school. We thought we had everything planed out really well. What we didn’t know was the janitors stayed up at the school all night to clean for the next day. When they saw the ram in the middle of the courtyard (along with 200 rolls of toilet paper), they called the police. They eventually caught us and we ended up spending the night in the Richardson jail on Beltline road. We ended up getting grounded, suspended and in deep trouble with the school and police. It wasn’t fun at the time, but we were local legends for a good couple years. Thank GOD social media wasn’t around when I was in high school.
