Community Highlights: Meet Marc Rodriguez of Self Made Training Facility Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Rodriguez.

Marc, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I retired from the Marine Corps in 2017 after 21 years of service. I joined Self Made Training Facility in Temecula, CA on July 23, 2017. I began my business as an independent contractor personal trainer within SMTF. In December 2019, I was named Director of Education for SMTF Corporate HQ. I developed the education department for the corporation, partnering with several education entities in the fitness industry. I also traveled to 21 facilities in 7 states throughout 2021 and beginning of 2022 educating over a thousand personal trainers on business and personal training. I have hosted seminars on business practices as an independent contractor personal trainer. I mentored franchise owners as well in conducting business in their independent facilities. In June 2022, I decided to leave my position with SMTF Corporate HQ and own my own franchise out of California. I chose to take over the existing location in Dallas. I began ownership August 16th, 2022. I am also the CEO of Manifest Fitness Institute which is a resident school catered to certifying students to be personal trainers but also business owners. First class will begin in February 2023.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. Having the ability to adjust around multiple scenarios and continue thriving is a must characteristic of an entrepreneur. Some struggles I have witnessed and had to deal with ranges from financial issues, personnel issues, doubt, anxiety, worry, marital issues, and business partnership issues.

We’ve been impressed with Self Made Training Facility Dallas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Self-Made Training Facility (SMTF) is a corporation that allows independent contractor personal trainers and coaches to establish and operate their independent businesses in a private elite training facility. This business concept was established for fitness professionals to fully embrace their respective training styles and niches as an entrepreneur of their individual craft. SMTF stresses independence while providing tools, resources, and education for each individual to have maximal growth potential.

Self-Made Training Facility has experienced rapid and continued growth since it was established in 2013. The business model of allowing independent contractor fitness professionals a comfortable and safe private training facility to operate their businesses is innovative and has never been accomplished by anyone else in this capacity. SMTF core values encompass empowering fitness professionals and those affiliated with the fitness industry to operate and grow their own successful businesses. This concept ensures the success of SMTF as a whole. Self-Made Training Facility is the leading business in the health and fitness industry with this model.

I provide business mentorship not only as a franchise owner but also as a previous independent contractor personal trainer. I am known for leadership. I am known for providing education, tools, resources, advice to make anyone successful, whether personally or professionally. The fitness professionals we have under our roof thrive for more, so the service is always top-notch. That’s what makes us different.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You are not a personal trainer; you are a business. Understanding the balance between entrepreneur and personal trainer/coach is vitally important. Providing top-notch service is imperative but also being compensated for the value you provide is equally important. I wish I knew more business concepts when I started out. But I am glad I learned through trial and error. Now I can supply the information, so no one has to go through what I went through.
