Today we’d like to introduce you to Lekhana Reddy.
Hi Lekhana, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started my career in data from a non-technical background. I pursued my masters’ degree in Data Analytics and landed my first job as a Data Science Analyst within 8 months of my Masters’s program. While studying and working, I found that the real world was completely different from the theoretical knowledge I was learning in my master’s program. I was lucky to get a Mentor in my first job who guided me through learning and gave me a real-world experience.
Back in 2021, I started helping people to transition to data science and analytics through my Instagram channel and I had people reach out asking us how to get started in the field of data. My unique background helped me bridge the gap between real world and learning data science. Over the past 1.5 years, I have been able to mentor over 1,500 + professionals to transition their career to data science and analytics and built a community of over 115k across all channels.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
During the initial phases of storytelling by data not many accounts were creating content on data. Content creation is hard and some of the challenges to figure out content creation and building a courses without no prior experience was the hardest. I don’t remember having weekends but it’s all worth when you see the responses from people and their success stories.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently working as a Sr. Data Governance Analyst where I help organization secure and organize data. The most fulfilling part of my journey is to see that the companies are being compliant with their data, data standards and having data literacy throughout the organization. My knowledge in BI and data analytics sets me apart for being in data governance.
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
My biggest risk I’ve taken would probably be when I decided to start creating a course for data professionals to understand various roles in data. For a while, I was only creating content for people who requested them, but I decided to take a risk and created a course. This was a big-time commitment that interrupted with my pursuit of other hobbies and it also was a huge financial investment upfront but after I started selling my courses and saw the need for people to understand what entails in different data roles. I’m glad that I was willing to take the risk since I get to do what I love every day.
