Meet Stephanie Smith of Unique Fashions in Balch Springs and Terrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Smith.

Stephanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Unique Fashions was designed to be a Community Based business, which strives to serve the members within the community by allowing them to have a personal relationship with the business and the owners by illustrating the growth of Unique Fashions from the start. My Husband and I began this business with an Idea over a decade ago to build relationships in the community to help supply a need for fashion, style and a great customer service experience on another level. We offer core brands such as MissMe, Rock Revival & Affliction to name a few plus much more locally that you would normally have to go deal with the hassles of going to the mall to acquire. We are always asked or even sometimes told that we belong in the malls but we refuse because we would not be able to come in and open the store after hours for customers who maybe working late etc.

We currently have two locations one in Balch Springs and the other in Terrell. We previously had up to five locations. The others were in Atlanta, Wylie, Marshall which are all in Texas. With growth comes lesson and we appreciate the lessons and opportunities God has allowed us. We are truly blessed to have a business and be able to interact with our wonderful clients on a daily basis.

If you were to ask me what part of my business I enjoy the most I would have to say “My Customers”. I am their therapist, fashion consultant, friend and confidant.

We love all of our Customers and appreciate their many Years of Support.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We had up to five locations in Marshall, Atlanta, Wylie, Balch Springs and in Terrell although all in Texas, they were still quite a distance apart. When your clients were used to dealing with the owner all the time it was hard to have them acclimate to dealing with someone else no matter how much you train them to offer great customer service. So saying that my clients don’t just come in for our merchandise. They stop in for our unique experience. I don’t ever regret or call anything a fail. I truly believe it is a lesson that God intended us to learn whether to pass on to other striving entrepreneurs or for us to move on to bigger and better things.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Unique Fashions story. Tell us more about the business.
My name is Stephanie Smith. I am the Co-owner of Unique Fashions. We specialize in supply and demand (lol). That is seeing what the fashion industry is lacking and supplying it to our clients. Such as stores/ manufacturers tend to follow trends at times as we also do, but some clients prefer the prefer the simpler quality items that sometimes are not in style or on trend as some may say. We hunt down those manufacturers that will carry those styles and supply that also to our clients. We all know for example when turtle neck tops are out of style there is hardly anywhere you can go and find not even one.

We also implemented a plan that when our clients stop in to shop we record their like, dislikes and sizes to make it easy for that special someone to come in and shop for them. Also for that awkward individual who is either getting older or larger and not sure how to dress their body for their size or age, we educate our clients on how to feel confident and look great all at the same time. We do so much more but I can’t give away all our secrets.

We also make it a point of duty to visit and support other local businesses in our area for many reasons, such as to grow our community by spending our money local. Plus to know what merchandise or services they have that when a customer stops in our location and we cannot accommodate them we know for a fact where to send them and who to ask for when they go.

I would say doing all of the above helps to set us apart from others while keeping our brand very unique.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We do not believe in luck, we believe in destiny.

Jeremiah 1: 5 say Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou cadets forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto nations.

Also Romans 8:1 say What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
