Life & Work with Linda Mullins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Mullins.

Hi Linda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a wellness entrepreneur. I once heard the word Wellpreneur, so I adopted it. I’m passionate about wellness, friends, and travel. So, I created a brand that fit with my love for travel. As a Keynote speaker, Wellness Retreat Owner, and   writer – I get to educate and liberate people from burnout all around the globe.

My motivation to launch Inspired Leadership Group and Luxury Executive Wellness was born from my personal experience with burnout while at a Fortune 100 company in 2017.

That’s not right let’s go back to 2007 when I first had burnout. I quit my job, went to a 6-week boot camp in L.A. to de-stress and lose weight. And that I did! But before I finished my transformation after boot camp, bam! A few months later I opened my first start-up, a live-in wellness resort in Florida. I owned and ran the company for over six years before selling.  Once my company sold, I returned to the familiar world of automotive. It seemed like a natural decision.

As it turns out, the industry hadn’t changed at all over the years, but I sure had.   The job had lost its sparkle for me, even with the ‘big bucks’. Now I knew way too much about the wellness lifestyle, balance and health & I wanted it back!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy earning a good living. But after investing years of building wellness experiences that really helped people, somehow selling   financial services in automotive no longer satisfied me. It was then, in 2017 when my epiphany came.

My boss asked if I was happy in my role in California. That was a simple but profound question. The answer was no. My heart was still in the wellness arena.

It was then, in 2018, that I decided to launch this company focused on integrative wellness and move to Dallas.

You’ve heard the old adage ‘it’s not personal – it’s business’ I beg to differ, we can’t separate the well-being of the person from the well-being of them as a leader or an employee. It’s only one human being, one life, nor work-life and home-life, just one life. Period.

In all organizations, everything rolls down from the leader(s). If they are unwell, out of balance or suffering, chances are the company is feeling the effects. So, our mission (and tagline) of ‘Restoring the Leader Within’ was established.

By combining my leadership experience with my passion for transforming lives, my team and I get to impact leaders and their teams through wellness solutions that include well-being workshops, keynote speaking engagements, executive off-sites, and company wellness retreats. It’s so fun!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t call it a smooth road exactly. Initially, I was consulting with small companies while trying to raise awareness about executive and employee burnout, well before COVID-19.

When the pandemic hit, we were hit, and unable to offer our transformative in-person experiences. But thank God that 2022 has been a terrific year of growth again.  I’m grateful we’ve been able to serve both individuals and companies to boost their wellness.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe what I do, along with my team, is divinely appointed by God. I feel led to help people overcome their past, and deal with the deeper stuff, the stuff that’s hard for most people to uproot. The wounds inside that have been buried, stuffed down and covered over with a more pleasing exterior.

It’s the hidden things inside all of us that ultimately cause burnout & dis-ease in our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual lives. It’s an honor to be a part of the healing journey.

As an Executive Coach, I’ve gotten to know people pretty well. But I leave it to licensed mental health professionals on the team go deeper into the sub-conscious, where the triggers to the trauma hide.

Our unique business model includes a team of vetted wellness practitioners, working collaboratively to set people on a path to greater well-being. When asked about their experience with our retreat program, our clients most often use the word ‘transformative’ to describe it.  Kudos to our clients. They come ready, open and vulnerable. They just want to feel better. And they do! Great things happen when a willing client meets an immersive experience. It happened for me in 2007, and I love seeing it happen for others!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes! I think the word so many of us used was ‘pivot’, so I did! I think the key to surviving such an upheaval is to remain flexible. Otherwise, it can really overtake you – your outlook on life, your health, your joy.

I count myself really lucky for my experience during the shutdown. My team and I did some Well Webinars as a service to the community. People were really scared and needed some encouragement and hope.

I rediscovered how much I loved writing (in all my spare time during the pandemic.) Since retreats and keynote speaking were non-existent, I became a Contributing Wellness Editor for a couple of magazines based here in Dallas and did some freelance writing through gigs on Upwork – I even wrote my first book. Being resilient and flexible enough to roll with the punches allowed me to experience some peace and joy, while much of the world was in chaos. I’m super grateful.
