Exploring Life & Business with Lane Rainwater of BAR-Ranch Steak Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lane Rainwater.

Hi Lane, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
BAR Ranch Steak Company was all started on a whim. I have always spoken about having a small shop that focused on premium dry-aged beef particularly Wagyu. The term Wagyu is used so loosely that most places can not tell you if the product they are serving is true Wagyu or simply a version of crossbreeding. A friend of mine that owns a business in downtown Plano mentioned that a location became available. I met with the landlord and accepted the lease that same day. Not exactly sure what I was going to do, I began construction. Long story short, after 2 years and covid we opened our doors to the public Nov 2020. Over the past 2 years, we have evolved into what I have been told by a few of our guests that travel around the world we are “arguably one of the best steak dinning experiences in the DFW area. I’m extremely humbled.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it’s been normal. Nothing catastrophic. We were in construction all through covid so it actually helped us with things being locked down. I am not a restaurateur, so this has been a learning experience. This model with only 7 tables isn’t something you see and not a lot of information on how to operate. So, I would say the learning curve has been the biggest obstacle.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rainwater Facility Solutions LLC?
I actually make my living from facility maintenance. Commercial Landscaping, building maintenance, etc. I have been doing this for 24 years.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Patience. Being self-employed you experience so many ups and downs. Not only the business day-to-day issues, from finances to employees. But also the unexpected things. When you have employees, their problems become your problems, so no 2 days are the same. I used to stress about things, but after a few years, you realize that if you just keep doing what you are doing and trust the decisions, in time everything works out.
