Hidden Gems: Meet Pedro Alanis of Bully Taco Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pedro Alanis.

Hi Pedro, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello everyone! My name is Pedro Alanis and I am one of the managing partners of Bully Taco Catering. I guess I should tell you a little about how our business got started. I grew up in East Dallas and spent the majority of my childhood in a taqueria kitchen watching my mother make tacos. When I became a man and ventured out on my own, I tried other different kinds of businesses but somehow always found myself coming back full circle. It’s the kind of thing you’re just born into. In 2019 with the help of my daughter, my business partner, we started Bully Taco together. We had an idea to take that same authenticity you get from a traditional taqueria and find a way to bring it to people’s doorsteps. We knew we didn’t want to own a restaurant; who wants those hours? Or a Food Truck and all the red tape that comes with it. But being taqueros is a part of who we are, and we didn’t want to lose that. So, Bully Taco Catering was born. We took simple backyard Taquizas or Taco Parties and elevated it into something neither of us quite expected. Now, everyone in my immediate family is a part of Bully Taco, my stepfather, my son-in-law. It’s been a crazy, amazing ride.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Starting a new catering business 5 months before the pandemic hit was a struggle to say the least. It was definitely our biggest hurdle to overcome. From staffing to supplies to just booking in general it was a struggle every day to not just throw in the towel. But I believed we had something really special and so I held on and somehow, we made it to the other side. We booked a total of 62 events in 2020 and each one of those was hard-won. How many did we do in 2022? 191. It’s been such a blessing to be so supported by DFW.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bully Taco specializes in Mexican street taco catering. Our slogan says it all: We Bring the Taqueria to You. We are known for our unique Taquero service where our trained taqueros chop and prepare tacos to order for guests, just like they would experience if they were to visit a traditional taqueria. Our tacos are 100% authentic with recipes that originate directly from Mexico City, Mexico. No frills, no gimmicks, just street tacos. That’s what we are most proud of. Staying true to our roots and proving that you don’t have to throw the kitchen sink at something to make it amazing.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We’d like to tell anyone out there who is thinking of starting a business or following their dreams to go for it. 1000% go for it! Don’t give up and don’t let anyone tell you it’s not possible. Anything is possible if you are willing to put in the work and have the drive to achieve it.
